Henry Ford Bariatric Surgery Program Bariatric Center
Dr. Carlin is a very confident man with a great personality. You can tell that he genuinly cares about his patients. I was told at first I'd be seeing Dr. Genaw then was told that the info was incorrect. Well I have spoke with Dr. Genaw on the phone and I can also say that he also is very informative and professional. So I'll have to say that I'll be very trusting of the Henry Ford Bypass Team.
My first impression of Dr. Carlin was that he was young and energetic. I was surprised to find out that he is just 10 years yourger than me. He seems to be very caring and patient and takes all the time you need to answer your questions clearly and in common terms. I really liked his way of dealing with patients. I am looking forward to him performing my surgery with no fear on my part. I feel like he is very competent and has made sure that I was fully education on this surgery and aftercare. Nothing will come as unexpected. He went over all of the risks of the surgery and made sure I fully understood them. His staff of nurses and dietician were very good. The orientation program, which was 4 1/2 hours long was very good. I was completely organized with the binder they provided. I was not impressed with the medical assistants and felt that they needed more training, especially in taking blood pressure and being nicer when dealing with patients. I totally would recommend Dr. Carlin and the bariatric program at Henry Ford Hospital.
I would highly recommend Dr. Carlin to anyone who is thinking about weight loss surgery. From the very first communication his staff have been extremely welcoming and helpful in all my questions and concerns. Dr. Carlin is a very warm and approachable doctor. No question is too silly for him. I'm mean lets face it. Anyone who has had surgery or who is thinking about having weight loss surgery thinks about how this life changing procedure(s) will effect his/her life and body. Sagging parts, hair loss, energy levels just to name very few. I had to go back into the hospital 24 hours after returning home from surgery due to rectal bleeding. Dr. Carlin seen me in the emergency room and was concerned about what could be the problem. After continual checking on my blood count and waiting to see if the bleeding continued, 4 days later I was able to go home. Dr. Carlin checked on me at various times and kept reassuring me that all was well. Apparently it ended up only being blood from a possible nick that was cause by surgery and was just exiting my body. Alls well that ends well. Dr. Carlin has a great sense of humor and is always upbeat. It is mandatory for patients to have follow-up care. Post op visits are 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months(?) and 12 months. With I believe annual appointments thereafter.
from the first moment i met him i knew he was the best for me. the staff was great to it takes forever at the office they are always so busy. he canceled my surgery for gaining three pounds due to my period, but that only set me back one week i got over it. he was very stern when it came to aftercare. he explained all the risks of the surgery even the scary stuff. he has great bedside manor i would rate him a 15!! he is the greatest !
I have to say that Dr. Genaw is one kick ass of a doctor. The whole time I was in the hospital he visited me at least twice a day to see how I was doing. He has an excellent attitude about wanting to see his patients succeed in this adventure. On Sunday (Nov.21) he came in and looked me over and told me I could either go home then or on the Monday, most of the doctors that I have dealt with would have be strict about what they wanted. My parents were also impressed with Dr. Genaw and his staff. The whole Bariatric Program at Henry Ford Hospital is way above anything I had expected. I had heard good things about it, but until you actually experience it, that is when you know you have made the best choice in where to have this surgery done at.
My first impression of Dr. Genaw is he is a no nonsense, tell you like it is kind of guy. He wont sugar coat things and tell you things you want to hear. He is direct and to the point. However he will take time to talk to you and make sure you understand the procedure and what you are in for. I like the fact that he will take time and talk you, not doctor to patient but person to person. His office staff have all been very kind and more than helpful in setting up other appointments, etc. I have been seen on time at all my appointments by all doctors, no waiting in the lobby forever. This helps when scheduling around work schedules and othe things. He will make sure you are well informed about the surgery and the risks of the surgery. My trust level of Dr. Genaw is high, as he is confident and has left no questions unanswered. I have had no unpleasant experiences while doing the things required of me to have the surgery. I have been pleased with my experience, and can only hope my good experience will continue.
Dr. Genaw is wonderful, he also has an associate: Dr. Carlin is great as well. Dr. Carlin was my initial surgeon through my entire initial process, then on the actual day of surgery he became ill and Dr. Genaw offered to do the surgery. I agreed and was not disappointed at all.
The office staff is professional, caring and very efficient.
These Dr.s are very nice and friendly but very strict and no-nonscense when it come to this program.
The aftercare program is very structured and all patients are expected to follow it to the letter.
They addressed the risks by asking that I lose 30 pounds before surgery and explained the reasons why. On the last visit they go over the total risks of the surgery with you giving you a chance to back out. They are very honest and even talk about the chance of death.
I rate both of these doctors GREAT in all areas.
