Henry Ford Bariatric Surgery Program Bariatric Center
My first impression of Dr. Genaw was that he was very friendly and caring. He also has a very funny sense of humor which I really appreciated. The day after my surgery he came in my room sat down and just talked to me and answered my questions and it felt like he was in no hurry to leave. Dr. Genaw's whole team was wonderful from Wanda to the residents to the PA's. Everyone was very kind. The HFH program has lots of support put in place so everyone has the option of support before and after surgery. The team was very knowledgable and explained all the risks and percentages of complications very clearly. Overall I would rate Dr. Genaw and his staff as excellent. I would say his sugical competence and bedside manner were both great too.
My first impression of Dr. Carlin was he was very professional, he had a genuine concern for me as a person. I found his staff to be very imformative and pulled no punches. The surgery was explained very well and nothing was left to the imagination. I am looking forward to working will both Dr. Carlin and his staff. I am putting my life into his hands without hesitation.
I have had one meeting with Dr. Genaw so far and was made to feel very comfortable and not ashamed. I have a meeting with him again on Nov. 2 and hopefully we will be setting my surgery date then... i am scared though i was told i had to lose 16 pounds and i have lost 9 and i only have a week left so i am doing everything i can to get there....
Dr. Laker was very informative when I attended the Harper University Hospital seminar on bariatric surgery.rnrnI did a lot of research on the web and reviewed a lot of patient testimonials. I was impressed with Dr. Laker and his current research studies on diabetes and bariatric surgery.rnrnI was diagnosed about a year ago with diabetes and am terrified of it. I cannot wait to have the surgery and rid my body of this disease.rnrnI have had a lot of guidance from his staff. I would like to say that they have been very patient with me. I have had some confusion over referrals from my PCP and wish they would have been more informative on what was expected from me to obtain. The confusion was stressful and my PCP relationship which was already strained became even more difficult.rnrnI will update when I am further along in this process
I have only met with him once so far for my initial consult, but I was absolutely blown away! I am looking forward to seeing him again to book the date! I liked him from the minute he walked into the room! He is personable, humorous, and does not make you feel stupid or belittle you! He genuinely cares, and he is serious about your health! I cannot WAIT to have him as a surgeon! His words to me were 'you are a perfect candidate, and I am excited to work with you to get your life back!\" WOW! He even held my hand as I had my little cry! I have heard nothing but GREAT things about him! I CANNOT WAIT! I know DR CARLIN is the man to work on me...hands down!
My first impression of Dr. Genaw was one of gratitude..... He is very professional and describe the procedure and all the risk involved. Everyone at the Henry Ford Health System were great and friendly.... Everyone you walked by would wish you a good day.... The aftercare program is a strict one.... Making sure you attend all your aftercare visits.... I would rate Dr. Genaw and his team with a six out of five stars..... Believe me they are the best out there...... He is also a trauma surgeon, which is a lot harder then doing a by-pass surgery so I was extremely confident in his talents...... He is a magician..... I never at any point felt any pain after surgery........
When I had my first visit with Dr. Carlin, I will admit I was not sure what to expect. When I arrived at the clinic for my appointment, I was asked to fill out several forms including a list of what I had eaten over the last 24 hours. My fiance, Bryan, was very adamant about my being truthful not only with the doctor but myself as well. When Dr. Carlin took a look at my list, he told me very simply that my behavior and habits had to change. I have a very fast-paced job which usually means I eat on the go and eat out quite a bit. That just was not going to cut it anymore, and he would not let me make excuses. He was very unforgiving, and told me expected to see some changes if I wanted to be successful. From that very moment, I knew he was the right person for me. I appreciated how direct he was about my surgery and outcome, and I made a decision to be very dilligent in making some serious life changes. I was very informed about the surgery and we discussed many aspects of not only the surgery but the long term outcomes. I would consider myself extremely hands on when it comes to my health care especially given the seriousness of this procedure, so I wanted to know what research showed about people having this surgery that were still alive well into their 70's and 80's. The whole reason I am doing this is so I can live longer, so I want to know how those folks are doing. He was very sensitive to my questions and concerns, and he answered them honestly and what he did not have information on at that time he found out for me and we discussed at my follow up visit. I also did a search for Dr. Carlin and found that he was doing research about Vitamin D deficiency in patients of gastric bypass surgery. This was significant to me because my blood work showed such deficiencies. I have an appreciation for the science of all of this so it was important and he was very willing to share this information. I appreciated that he took time with me, but I also think it helped that I was so well informed on my own. As I prepare, I have the utmost confidence in him and his staff. Everyone has a wonderful attitude and they are very helpful and knowledgeable. I really liked that.
