Well this is a little bummer. The psychologist office called again and had to cancel my appt Mon the 18th cause the doctor ended up in the hospital from the allergic reaction from flu shot. I hope the doctor will be ok (I am not that cruel) but there are only 2 doctors in my insurance network that do bariatric psych evaluations. One is in the hosptail and the other one is scheduling out till the middle of Feburary and only does a limited number of these! UUUGGGHHH So now its going to be even longer cause the paperwork doesnt even go to insurance for approval till all the evals are completed. I was kinda hoping to have the surgery after the first of the year. By the time psych eval is done, I get approval and it schedule we are looking at late March or early April of next year! I know this is nothing compared to what others have waited for, sorry I am such a whinning little snit! :-) Seems like all my life I had to jump thru hoops to get from one point to the next. Sorry to make everyone listen to this. Good luck to everyone having surgery or those that continue to play the waiting game with the me!

Well what a bummer. The psychiatrist office called yesterday to reschedule my appt for today. Evidentally the doctor got a flu shot and had a terrible reaction to it. Sorry to hear is sick, but getting this appointment was a 3 month wait! They managed to "squeeze" me in on the 18th of this month providing the doctor is back (he had a very bad reaction). If he isnt back by then, the next appointment isnt until the middle of Jan '03. I am crossing my fingers he is back or they can get me an appt with someone in a decent time frame.

Met with the Dietician again today (Monday 10-28-02) reference starting my 6 mo supervised diet program. She was impressed with my record keeping so far and gave me a lot of helpful information. I go back in 8 weeks to see her, and she said if I am denied she would help me resubmit paperwork for approval after about 3 months. That was encouraging (along with the fact I lost 2 more pounds).

I had my consult with the Dietican on Thursday 10/24. She was very sweet and full of information, now I can see why my insurance company requires it. She used a football and a plastic easter egg to show the difference between stomach now and a what it will hold after surgery. We talked a lot about diet after surgery and I was surprised to learn that the surgeon I have puts you on pureed foods right after you are released from hospital. She also advised that my stomach opening will be no bigger then an eraser tip on a pencil and even smaller after surgery till it heals! My biggest fear still is vommiting, but the dietician said if I stick to the rules I should be fine.

I also went back to my PCP Thurs 10/24 to start my 6 month supervised diet. I found out that in order to meet my insurance requirement for physcian supervised weight loss diet I have to have talk to a psychiatrist and dietician for the diet (this would be in addition to the requirement to see both of these for the WLS approval) UUUGGGHH. So, I go back to the dietician on Tues 10/29 for the diet consult. I have been on a diet on my own for last month and took proof of diet and exercise to the PCP and had her add it to my chart so when they review it for WLS it would be there. I lost 12 pounds last month, so that at least is good news! I am going to get tired of seeing all these people! I keep telling myself everything would work out, but if I go thru all this effort and still get denied I have a feeling I will just give up!

Well, I had my consult with the surgeon 10/04/02. It went well, I was very impressed with Dr. Oliphant. He mentioned that my insurance company requires 6 months Physician supervised weight loss (within the last 2 yrs) prior to getting approval. I think this will be the reason for denial. I went back to my PCP for a blood pressure check (glad to report its under control 110/84). My PCP is going to start me on a program and is determined to help me. I go back to see her in 2 weeks and she will have all the information (nutritional/exercise guidelines)needed. I see the Dietician in 2 weeks and see the Psychologist in Mid November (these appts are required by my ins co). I am going to go ahead and have all my appts completed and have surgeon submitt my paperwork for approval anyway. If I do get denied at least I will have a jump on the 6 months of supervised diet. The fact that I know I will get denied it very discouaging yet on the other hand it give me time to prepare for the worse and one last chance of trying to loose the weight on my own. At least then I know I have really tried my heart out. I have been trying to diet and exercise on my own the last 3 weeks. I have lost 10 lbs but I am starving constantly! We shall see where the future directs me.
