I had my surgery on 5/16/05. Everything went well, but because of my complete dislike for pain, I ended up back in the hospital the same day I was discharged for pain management. Dr. Jawad did not hesitate to tell me to check back into the hospital so they could take care of me. Dr. Jawad is very concise and to the point, but he is very knowledgeable and highly respected in his field. I trust him because of his reputation and because of his religious beliefs. His staff is friendly, but you have to become a pain in the you know what to make sure that things get done. Don't worry about it, just do it. Call them everyday if you have to. You are their customer! I would like to have seen Dr. Jawad more often, but I know he is a very busy man and there are many other people he must give lives back to. I appreciate everything he has done for me and I look forward to a long wonderful relationship with him as my doctor. These are just my personal experiences with the doctor and in no way reflect how your experience may turn out.

My first impression of Dr. Jawad was that he was a very soft spoken but very knowledgeable doctor. He knew his subject inside and out. Dr. Jawad has an air of quiet confidence, but is not particularly warm and friendly. After the surgery, however, the warmth of his personality came out. He spent a good deal of time at my bedside answering questions that my husband and I had, and stopped by to visit me 2 more times before I was discharged. He is a very skilled surgeon, and in much demand, so he really doesn't waste time with small talk. He is honest about the risks but confident in his ability. He did stress that the surgery is not a "magic bullet" but a tool that must be used along with diet and exercise for lasting results. His nurse, Sylvia, is just amazing. She is warm, caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable, a perfect compliment to Dr. Jawad. I'm less impressed with some of his staff; I live 6 hours away, and the office staff never fails to lose my lab results...every time! I've watched the folks on my end fax the lab results, but they never get where they are supposed to in time for my appointments. Oh well, nobody's perfect.
In all, I give Dr. Jawad the highest marks available. I'm thrilled with my experience, and have, in fact, recommended him to many others.

I met Dr Jawad on 4/28/05 for the first time. He did a seminar for four of us bariatric patients in his office. I was impressed with his knowledge and he was very factual and very serious. Some doctors have a kind of funny bedside manor which sometimes can make a patient somewhat comfortable. Dr Jawad isn't this way but, I gained trust in him right away because of his knowledge. He tells you right up front what to expect from him and his staff.
At first I thought it was a little odd that when you are in pre op it seemed common your doctor would come out and say hello to you but, Dr Jawad says he doesn't do this but, feel assured he is in the operating room. I guess he is the doctor and he does things his way. He addressed everything is a very professional manor but, serious manor. I had my surgery 5/3/05 I was told to be at Munroe Hospital at 6:00 am which I was. In a small way I wish I would have seen him before the surgery maybe just to know he is the one that really did the operation. Kind of stupid huh? I was asleep by the time I got into the OR and I woke up in recovery. His surgical comptence is much better than his bedside manor. The whole time I was in the hospital every nurse, X Ray technicians and nursing tech's told me what a great doctor I had that he was the best at this hospital.
He came everyday to see me and stayed with me until he discoved what he could do to fix the situation. I had a tough time which I will explain in another section of my profile. Dr Jawad was right there for me even on Mothers Day he came right to my rescue when I thought I was dying or having a heart attack. Within five minutes he fixed the problem and this time I even got a smile out of him. I would recommend him to anybody. I don't see him for another month now so lets see if he won't laugh on our next visit.

Excellent surgeon. Very careful to ensure that everything would go fine and it did. Office staff is wonderful.

My first impression was that he was very confident and very knowledgeable.
My impression did not change but the more I spoke with him the more I was able to tell that he was very competent and cares about his patients well being.
His office staff is wonderful!
There was not any thing that I did not like about him.
Future patients should know that he is an extrememly competent doctor and that if you choose him you will be in good hands.
He emphasizes aftercare a great deal and has an extrememly structured aftercare program.
He went through all of the risks of surgery one by one thoroughly.
I would say that Dr. Jawad is at the top of his field and an excellent surgeon!
I would have to say that competence means much more to me because if the surgeon is not competent and something tragic happens do you then really care about how nice they are to you?
Others might not agree with every thing I have said but I think they will agree that he is a competent surgeon with a phenomenal reputation. These are only my opinions and views from my individual experience.

As of yet I haven't met Dr. Jawad. I am scheduled to meet him on Thurs 2/17/05. However, I have meet his nurse practitioner, Sherry. She was very nice and tells it like it is. All of the office staff that I dealt with were friendly and helpful.

I feel as if Sherry explained the procedure and the risks throughly on the initial consultation visit. So far I would rate the office very highly. And according to what I have read about him and his staff on this site, he is an excellent doctor.

I feel as if surgical competence is the most important. But bedside manner is also important because it makes you feel comfortable with the doctor.

My one complaint (albeit a small one) was that sometimes it took a day or so for someone to return my call after leaving a voice mail message.

03/09/05 (update):
Dr. Jawad did a Lap RNY on me 2/22/05. When I meet him at the pre-op appt on 2/17 I was very impressed with how competent and knowledgeable he was. He went through all of the risks and explained them all. His office staff is extremely helpful and truly want their patients to succeed. I would recommend Dr. Jawad to anyone.

My first impression of Dr. Jawad was that he was timid but knew what he was talking about, he had a wealth of information for us. My impression over time only changed in the fact that my respect for him grew with each passing day, I followed everything he advised me to do and still am today. Dr. Jawad's office staff was very helpful with every aspect of pre and post surgery info and questions or concerns that I had. Everyone in the office has always been very sweet and friendly making you feel comfortable at all times. There was nothing that I can say I did not like about Dr. Jawad or any member of his office staff. Future patients should know to take every piece of advice given and live by it, the staff really knows what they are talking about and it is obvious that they truely care about your success. Aftercare is stressed and support groups and office staff are readily available for patients to utilize. I feel that Dr. Jawad addressed the risks of my surgery extremely professional and straight forward and I would rate him an 11 on a scale form 1 to 10:)Both surgical competence and bedside manner were great and I feel comfortable referring friends and family in need of this surgery to Dr. Jawad without a second thought!!!!

I thought he really knew what he was talking about! I continued to see how much knowledge he had about the surgery and the history of the surgery that they started preforming it back in the 50's. I really felt like I knew his office staff. They are a very busy office so at times it did take a while for a call back. Great Dr! Aftercare was put to me as it being very important and it determines if you do well or not. He went through each and every risk for LAP RNY, Open RNY, and lap banding. Also the percentage that has accured at his office. On a scale of 1-10 a 10+. I think that both are very important!
