Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital Organization
'I like him. Easy to talk to and doesn't pussy foot around. The office staff are a great bunch of women that are very nice and on the ball!rnThere is a very structured after-care program in Fresno that I haven't gone to yet. I would like to go pre-op just to get a feel for it and learn more. rnHe saw that I had a history of a blood clot in my leg and asked for an ultrasound prior to submitting to ins.and requested that I attempt to loose 10-15 lbs prior to the surgery. (I'm working on that now... started yesterday) He was telling me that the weight could be the difference between an open vs. lap incision. I'm all for the lap and would rather have that than the open as he said that they are more precise with the lap and there are fewer complications and easier recovery time with lap vs. open. rnI would say that both bedside manor and surgical competence are highly important. You want a surgeon who knows what he's doing and yet one that doesn't treat you as another body on the production line. I feel that I've got a great surgeon who has a sense of humor
I first met Dr Boone at one of his seminars at St Agnes hospital in June, 2005. I very much liked the way he presented the surgery. I was very comfortable with him from the start. My insurance was Blue Shield Highmark, and they required a 6 month Dr diet. Dr Boones office worked with my regular doctor (Dr Matson) and as soon as I was done with my 6 months, they had my approval in less than 2 weeks. In fact, Christina from Dr Boones office received the fax on a Saturday and called me on my cell phone with the news. They are very compassionate and were just awesome! Dr Boone takes time when you see him post op as well. During my visits, he listens as we go over questions, and asks questions that I may not have thought about. I would recommend him to everyone.
Dr. Higa was personable and laid back. He came in, sat down, and never once made me feel he was in a hurry (even though I knew he was very busy). He took the time to answer my questions, eventhough most of them were addressed in the literature he was also sending with me. He seemed to understand that what is routine to him is a life changing undertaking for me.
His staff has been helpful, respectful, prompt, and efficient. My only complaint is the waiting list for consultative appointments. It took 6 months to get in!
At times it may seem he is taking unecessary precautions, but, follow his advice and reccomendations. The more he knows going into the surgery, the better you'll do.
After care is very importatnt because it is this that will set the tone for your success. Dr. Higa is active and accessible in the aftercare.
Dr. Higa has a booklet that covers the main types of WLS, the pro's and con's, and how they change your body. He includes his practice's experience with each, his overall complication rate, the short and long term effects, and where this all falls in line with WORLD standards. He also includes some issues that come into play concerning emotional and social conventions like; transfer addictions & losing friends or family-things I didn't see covered by other practice's. He completes the book with a test (you will have to take a few times before the surgery.) He insists you be well informed and prepared.
On a scale of 1-10, I would definately give Dr. Higa a 10.
If you are looking for a well rounded (punny) surgeon with one of the best success rates and reputations in the world; a surgeon who is invested and proactive in your health; one who demands and provides excellence and will insist you work.--then Dr. Higa is the perfect choice.
Dr. Boone did a great job with my surgery. He and his associates are very professional and curteous. The office staff is sensitive and go out of their way to keep you feeling safe and secure. I am a nurse at one of the facilities where Dr. Boone practices and he always greets me and asks how I am. He's very thoughtful man. The aftercare portion was handled mainly by the doctors office staff, although I did see the doctor each time. The entire back office staff were all knowledgable about aftercare and would readily answer any questions I had. I believe that Dr. Boone has the highest degree of skill and competence in surgery..followed by bedside manner at a close 2nd.
Dr. Boone is a very caring Dr. He makes sure you understand everything, before and after surgery.I really like him even more 3 months after surgery, when you go see him he wants to know how things are changing for you at home and he always lets you know that he can see the changes in you each time you see him.The staff is frendly and very helpful. Both his bedside and and surgical manner are great, I would recommend him to any and all who ask me. He really is a personable man. My husband really like him also, he spoke to him as well as me before and after surgery.
