Dr. Murr was very informative. He answered all my questions and did not try to candy-coat anything. He wants you to know the risks! The office is run with amazing Proficiency - I did not wait to see anyone. That was a first!

Dr. John Paul Gonzalvo is the second surgeon I met with. I chose another doctor who quit just as we were submitting to insurance. I think it was a blessing in disguise because when I met with Dr. Gonzalvo I came out with a much better feeling. I was also very impressed with their entire program and the staff. Dr. Gonzalvo even showed up at one of the support group meetings I attended. The previous surgeon never did that. At this point I am still pre op. I have 14 days to go before my surgery. I have been very impressed and pleased with the attentiveness by everyone in their office. I will update more as I continue on in my journey. At that time I can tell you more about my impression right after surgery and then the aftercare I receive post op. rnrnAugust 29th... 2 Weeks Post Op.....rnSince my surgery is in the past now I can better give report as to my impression of Dr. Gonzalo and his staff. I came through the surgery with flying colors. I had very little pain from the time I left the hospital and was able to walk a mile twice a day starting the very next day. I met with Dr. Gonzalvo a day short of my 2 week post op date and he removed my staples. As always he took as much time with me as I needed and did not make me feel rushed. I was very impressed also at the time Dr. G. took looking at each bottle of vitamins that I was taking and advising me on each one. rnI was so happy with my outcome that I wanted to praise him and thank him but he is such a humble, quiet man that he would have none of it. The staff in his office were all so pleasant and excited for me as well. I have not yet met a person on his staff that I don't thoroughly like. It is obvious they are all very dedicated to and love their jobs.rnDr. G. informed me that their surgical team is taking over full control of the WLS program at Morton Plant in Clearwater. They will personally be running the support groups and overseeing the nutrition and after care program as well. Previously Morton Plant had their own staff that worked with the surgeons and patients. I was thrilled to learn that they are doing this and think it is a great step for the patients. rnI HIGHLY recommend Dr. John-Paul Gonzalvo to do your WLS if you are in search of a surgeon. Just read my blog and you will see how well I did after surgery. That in itself is quite a testimonial.

My first impression of Dr. Murr was good. He was very nice yet straight to the point. He jumped right in and asked me what I wanted out of WLS surgery and why I choose the type of surgery I had. He said he was not asking to change my mind but to see how well informed I was and develop a patient/doctor relationship.rnrnAll of his office staff was very professional and nice. I am not too thrilled with the whole student/teaching program but I guess they have to start somewhere.rnrnHe's a VERY busy man and in high demand. It took forever to get in to see him.rnrnFuture patients should be well prepared when they get in to see Dr. Murr and his team. He likes for you to know what you want, why you want it and have questions. rnrnDr. Murr was straight forward about what it takes to be a successful WLS patient and you get out of it what you put into it. You will be his patient for the next 5 years and he expects you to hold up to your end of the bargain and follow up! They have a very structured after-care program outlined for each patient based on what type of surgery they undergo.rnrnDr. Murr told me that I should not be afraid of the risk of one surgery over another. ALL surgieries come with risk and complications. A well informed patient is a healthy patient. He said that the #1 killer of WLS patients are blood clots not the actual surgery procedure. So following your Dr. orders and walking, walking, walking helps prevent blood clots.rnrnI rate Dr. Murr overall as an excellent doctor.rn(PRE-OP)rnrnI think that surgical competence is far more important than beside manners. I rather you be harsh and know what you're talking about when you tell it to me like it is to save my life than sugar coat it and let me die from your lack of knowledge.

Dr Haicken was a nice sweet man unfortunately he retired on 12/31/2005. However he had 2 doctors (John Paul Gonzalvo and Richard Gordon) take over his practice. Dr Gonzalvo will be doing my surgery. I have seen both doctors in support meetings however had not meet them personally. I had my consult with Dr Gonzalvo and he seems to be very knowledgable about the surgery and the wants & needs of the patients. He explained what and how he will be doing the surgery, which made me feel comfortable. He also explained the pre-op diet that he has his patients begin 2 weeks prior to surgery. In all he made me feel good about the decision of having RNY surgery.

i had a very great experience with Dr. Murr he has always been really great. What impressed me the most is that at my three week post-op visit I was stading outside of Harborside Medical building waiting for my car to be returned to me and Dr. Murr was coming in to the clinic for the day and he stopped and talked to me and asked if I was happy with the surgery and what they had done for me. Why you ask was this such a wonder whell, I had only seen Dr. Murr 3 thimes total once before the surgery, the day of my surgery and one time during my 3 day hopsital day stay. His P.A. Lucy is absolutely wonderful and very helpful. If you are in the Tampa area and are considering this surgery I would not hesitate to check out Tampa Generals program to me they were the best. Even after the surgery they have been great. Other people at my work had the surgery done else where in the Tampa area and they said that after the surgery the surgeon didn't seem to want anything to do with them. Would not answer calls if they have had a problem. If I have a question and it is after hours I have always gotten a call back within 20 minutes of calling the service. I can't stress enough they are absolutely wonderful.

At first I thought he was very business like. I have met other surgeons before because my husband has had heart surgery and they were also business like. He was very direct about the percentages of things that can go wrong mostly less than 2% in most cases and he answered all my questions no matter how stupid they sounded. ......I went for my two week check up and he was so kind and considerate and still willing to answer any stupid question!!!,,,he's the man! The office staff was also very nice they also answered questions for me. rnrnHe stresses excersie, walking after surgery. It does not matter if it is for 10 mins or 5 mins. Walking after surgery helped me alot. rnrnHis surgical competence is super. I have had little or no pain from this experience. For the first week i was uncomfortable getting and standing up but that soon disappeared. I had a slight 'pulling\" feeling the he said it was just a part of healing....I had no fever no infections.rnrnDr. Gonzalvo is a very good doctor.rnrnI am still in recovery as my surgery was on October 30th 2006 and it is now December 1st 2006. I took two weeks off work ( Oct 31st thru Nov 10th )for the surgery and that seemed to be just enough time. One week more would not have made much diffrence. I feel good, my husband and I bought a treadmill so I can do my walking every morning before i go to work and on the weekends whenever...but mostly in the a.m.rnrnI had a very good coach. She had biatric surgery and knew all the things that I really shouldn't do....I have followed her plan to the letter and I'm feeling great. rnrnRight now I only eat mainly soft scrambled eggs with vegitian beans and cheese. I have protein drinks. rnrnSince this is winter I get cold alot easier than I used to...so i don't try to eat thick hot food that will make me sick, i either have a cup of decaf coffee or sugar free hot chocolate.rnrnAlso, what they don't tell you. The product rnPro Stat the drink that they give you in the hospital is a very good source in helping in recovery at home. You can buy it on the internet, and I belive that because of this product I feel as good as I do as I am getting all the protein that I need.rnrnI weighed in at 256 lbs before surgery...I weighted at my mom's house on november 25th and i writh 220 lbs. things are moving. I don't really feel it yet but I will someday.rnrn

My first impression of Dr. Murr is that he is genuine. I trust him completely and looking forward to my surgery.

My first impression was that he cares. His office staff were and are extremely caring and helpful. What I like about him is that he takes all the time you need to ask questions. I would recommend him to all

Very professional and knowledgeable. He listens. He has assembled an entire team which addresses obesity as a dissease and the team members are all on board with assisting you in whatever step you are in. Completed Surgery on my friend August 2006. He and his team have earned the gold seal. He emphasized aftercare and ensured that I would be meeting with team for my aftercare needs. To rate which is better surgical compentence, bedside manner - both are a necessity. Knowing that he is not \"feeling\" his way around with this procedure - he has successfully done hundreds and takes everyone of the surgeries seriously is important to me.
