I am very happy with my choice of surgeon, Dr. John Dietrick. He found a hiatal hernia I didn't know that I had, repaired it during my Lapband surgery, and I didn't have any problems with either procedure. I did stay overnight in the hospital for observation because of the hernia repair, otherwise, I would probably have been able to come home the same day as my surgery. Dr. Dietrick is calm, professional, personable, and has a good sense of humor. I always feel comfortable with his bedside manner when he does my post-surgery band adjustments. My only complaint would be with his Weight Loss Surgery Center's pre-surgery information classes. There was conflicting post-surgery lifestyle instructions between their video and written guidelines, concerning number of meals to eat on a daily basis. However, his staff explained to me the pamphlets are updated as soon as new information surfaces, and the video was slightly out of date. The other issue surgery candidates may want to ask about is follow-up appointment scheduling. My surgeon, as well as many others, is on-call during the week, so I did have to make last minute appointment changes a couple times. Dr. Dietrick has done hundreds of lapband and gastric bypass procedures, and he also does other types of ER surgery for University Community Hospital, that are not related to his Weight Loss Surgery Center patients. I did some investigation before I chose Dr. Dietrick, and found out he is board certified, with an excellent reputation.

I was very disappointed in my Surgeon, Dr. Murr. I strongly feel that if someone is going to operate on you – he should at least greet you before entering the operating room. I never saw him the day of the surgery and at times wonder if in fact he did the surgery. I feel strongly about this because in the past, I expected a certain surgeon to do my surgery, and after it failed, I found out that his assistant was the one who did the surgery after he had assured me that he was the one that was doing the actual surgery. rnrnWhen I go to a surgeon, it is because of his record! I would like to feel that throughout the process, I am being treated by the person I placed my trust with. Even though the surgery went without complications, at the end, I don’t even know who did the surgery.rn

He is very supportive and I love his staff. My impression gets better and better with time. They have a very supportive team at TGH.

I thought Doc Dietrick wouldn't understand anything about me; he was thin and it didn't seem like he'd know anything about being overweight. Boy, was I wrong. He is intelligent, made me feel at ease, and was very funny too. He answered all of my questions before I made my final decision, and wanted to be sure I had all my insecurities out of the way before moving to the next step of the surgical process. Doc Dietrick's office staff was very professional and courteous, and was very friendly as well. They are like family to me now. They know me by first name, and are always asking about my family. rnAnyone who goes in to see Doc Dietrick should know that he is genuinely concerned about you as a patient, as well as a person. He cares about your well being, and you have to be honest with him every step of the way because of this. If you start to go off your diet, TELL HIM, so that he can help you. He can help you only if you are honest with him.rnThis goes for before, during, and after care. rnOverall, I am very happy with Doc Dietrick, and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone who is looking for a weight loss surgeon.

What was your first impression of him/her? Nice and friendly. Open about what he expects.rnHow did your impression change over time? It hasn't change. I still find him nice and friendly and easy to talk to.rnHow would you describe his/her office staff? Fun and friendly and helpfulrnWhat did you like least about him/her? rnWhat should future patients know about him/her? rnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? Explains what is expected of you for aftercare and post-oprnDoes he/she have a structured aftercare program? For someone who probably needs a little more structure than most, I think the aftercare could be a little more structured. rnHow did he/she address the risks of surgery? When discussing the surgery in general, we discussed the good the bad and the ugly of GBSrnHow would you rate him/her overall? I have enjoyed being his patientrnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great? Both were great during my pre-surgery and time in the hosptial.rn

My first impression of Dr Murr is he is down to earth, professional and humble. My impression over time has not change. His staff has it together and if you follow everything they tell you, you will be successful in getting the procedure done. The aftercare program is very nice and organized. He was very honest and open about the risks of the procedure as well. I rate him a 10 out of 10 with my experience from start to finish. His surgical competencey and bedside manners are great.

I think Dr Murr is an excellent surgeon. My problem was AFTER being discharged from Tampa General-- I had a few problems and it was very hard to get any help from his office and my primary care didn't want to see me because he wasn't the doctor who had done the surgery. Other than that, I was pleased.rn

I met with Dr. Murr and he was a very nice and pleasant man. He was able to put me at ease and even made me laugh. I feel I am going to be in good hands with him and his colleagues. The staff was friendly and the nurse that seen me was very open and funny. There was nothing I did not like about my visit. His sharing the rate of my risks of the surgery made me calmer also. I was very pleased with the meeting I had and would reccomend thier office to anyone. I met one of his colleagues Dr. Shahram Salimitari the same day and he was very pleasant and nice to meet as well. The overall experiance with the staff and Dr.'s went well and made me at ease and welcomed to thier office.

My first impression of him was that he was very nice and knew his stuff since he had fellows to teach also. That was in July before the insurance approval, my surgery was 6 months later. I did not see him before or after the surgery at all... I did see 2 of his assistant surgeons. They were nice and answered questions, but there's just something about being able to see and talk to the person who did the actual procedure. It would have been nice. I don't believe that I will even see Dr. Murr in post op, since its five weeks from now and with a PA in the office. rnNo personal touch in what I thought was an important time, before the surgery. Of course this is just my opinion and experience.
