My firstt impression of Dr Schirmer ws he was very dedicated to his patients and wanting to make a change in my life for the better!!!!!
I would recommend anybody to him!!!!!!! His nurse Anna Miller was wonderful too!!!! She explained the the surgery in a way I could understand it and was very kind!!!!And there was no sugar coating about this surgery!!! She also has a great sense of humor and is very caring too!!!

It took several hours to see Dr. Schirmer, but in the end, I understood why. He took quite a bit of time with each patient. He actually seemed very interested in getting to know my husband and I and was incredibly thorough. I feel like I'm in the best of hands. He and his staff were so compassionate, kind and thoughtful. I'm blessed to have them on my side!

THESE ARE MY OBSERVATIONS....SOME ARE BIASED NO DOUBT AS THIS IS TWO MONTHS, AFTER SURGERY
AND I HAVE NOT HAD ONE PROBLEM...
observant as to medical and humanity issues
personalble..good "bedside"
same feeling now...
office stafff GREAT ..except for one receptionist in the general surgery office..she is rude to everyone and eats constantly with no manners..in front of the entire waiting room
no time to get to know him as a person..
no listen no surgery...period..he insists you full participate...mentally as well as physically..
BIG BIG BIG aftercare...insists on patients follow post surgery program....which is structured .
in an honest truthful realistic manner.
a 5 star surgeon...in fact...a bariatric patient candidate was sent to he and the other Dr./surgeons on the team....for better
closure procedures..the patient was from a huge bariatric center....a testimony to the drs at UH
both great...very unusual for this...

I was very happy with everything until the last night and next day. The night nurse really didn't care much about anything she was just cold. The lady next to me was in a lot of pain and did not get the care she really needed. The next morning the new nurse was very scatterbrained and often lost in her own world. She lost a sample needed to get me discharged. She was never available and when she was she was blaming everyones problems on depression and discussing her personal medications. Anna came up and talked to me and was very nice. Of course the nurse had told her I was depressed which I was not. I was just frustrated. Anna, the first set of nurses and the nurses aides were great. The last two nurses might want to check out other professions.

Dr. Schirmer is an excellent surgeon, and friend to his patients. He followed up with me at home after my surgery and requires his patients to see him at least once a year for life for followups. I would reccommend him to anyone seeking a Gastric Bypass Surgeon. Dr. Schirmers Project RN Anna Miller was excellent, she knows her stuff, and she will not sugar coat anything. She expects you to follow the rules, praises you when you do and chastises you when you dont, not to be mean , but becauses she cares. Dr. Schirmer and his staff gets an A+ from me.
