Everything is great, location, ease of finding your way around. THey were very slow on getting me a fan after surgery as too many were in use. Being in semiprivate room could not change heat.

I met with Dr. Schirmer the first time when going to my pre-op appointment. He was very kind and not rushed!! He took the time to answer question and go over in detail his own complication rates and knew right off hand any figures that had changed recently. He had a calm confident air about him.

In the hospital Dr. Schirmer was again very calm and not rushed. When he encountered me crying in pain. He sat down on the bed and talked to me calmnly about my issues.

At my post op appointment Dr. Schirmer again was not rushed and listened to all my concerns and answered the whole list of questions I had prepared before hand.

The staff at UVA has consisently been nice and helpful. My wait time has been minimal.

I had researched Dr. Schirmer before hand and he had been named as one of the best doctors in America. Only one other surgeon from UVA had accomplished this besides him. Working within medical field I know this accomplished is important and impressive.

I met with Dr.Schrimer and he was very soft spoken and very pleasant. He seems to really care about the well being of his patients. He went over all the risks once again and made sure that all my questions were answered. I wasn't nervous at all about meeting him. In fact I was quite anxious to meet the man that is gonna change my life forever. His staff was very pleasant and everyone just made you feel so at ease. His office is very busy ,however they took me right back at my appt. time. I would rate Dr.Schirmer and his staff on a scale of 1-10 a 20!!!!

I am 6 months post-op and I Dr. Hallowell and his entire staff have been wonderful. I was very concerned about how I would be treated before the surgery and after the surgery. I have to say that Dr. Hallowell has a wonderful bedside manner. He is very sensitive to your issues and takes the time to talk with you and answer any questions you might have regarding the surgery and all aspects in between. His entire staff, have been so supportive that it has been pleasure meeting them all.

If I had to rate him, it would be a 10+! I began my search with a local well-known facility and did not care for "mill" atmosphere. At Dr. Hallowell's office I was not just another insurance payment, I was a person and treated with respect and kindness. That meant more to me than anything else

Dr. Hallowell is calming, informative and honest. As I go through the healing process the doctor and staff have been available even during the holiday to answer a question about my incision. The office staff is valuable helping me adjust to the steps needed to get healthy again. Dr. Hallowell could take more time during office calls. The doctor expects me to know the right questions to ask. I am still figuring this all out and don't always know what I need. I will be a patient the rest of my life to make sure all is well. The doctor was upfront about the deaths and patients with complications. I am very glad to have found Dr. Hallowell.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Schirmer on Nov. 11,2004. He was very nice and informative. His office staff is wonderful. I was very impressed with how organized and friendly everyone was. On this first visit I attended a 2 hour informative meeting that went over the surgery, risks, what to expect, nutrition, insurance, exam and blood work. It was a long day, but everyone there was so wonderful you didn't mind waiting.

I was very impressed by Dr. Schirmer. He is very busy, but takes the time to make you feel important.

His office staff is very friendly. From the time you walk in to the time you leave. I was there from 7:45am until 4:30pm for my consultation. There is a mandatory meeting in the am with Anna Miller to discuss risks, rewards, and the actual procedure. Her husband is the insurance coordinator. He is very helpful and informed. I also met a dietician and had blood work done all in the same day.

He emphasizes aftercare. So far I am very impressed with him and his staff. I feel that he is not only surgically competent but will have a super bedside manner.

Anyone going for their first visit should bring a snack and good book. Be prepared for a very long day.
