Weight Management and Metabolic Center - Columbia Hospital
WOW that was my first impression or Dr. R, he was very nice, very helpful and really made me feel at ease about my decision. The NewStart program is a wonderful program, they have been very helpful with me and have taken good care of me. The one thing I would like to let other know about Dr. R is that he has done over 800 WLS and has had no deaths, now thats a good pice if information. He was in the room everyday to see me and visit with me and my family. The NewStart program has support group meetings and access to a registered dietitians. I would say the my overall experince with Dr. R is a perfect 10! Got'a Love h'm
I met Dr. Richardson today. I am very impressed. He is very nice and very knowledgeable. On his way out the door he let me know that they will be taking very good care of me. That meant alot to me.
Dr. Richardson is an excellant surgeon, I would reccomend him to anyone considering having this surgery. He is highly skilled in his profession and he also cares about his patients. He is upfront with you about the risks of surgery and answers all of your questions. He has a great bedside manner and also has a great aftercare program. I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Richardson.
I first saw Dr. Richardson at a "seminar" for WLS. He was very knowledgeable of the procedure and very patient as many people asked questions afterward. One of the things I really liked about him was that he was so personable...he was compassionate and serious about the nature of the procedure, but also showed a sense of humor and was able to lighten the mood in a room full of very obese people that were trying to make a very critical, life-altering decision. Dr. Richardson is one of 3 doctors that work out of South Pointe Hospital and involve themselves in the New Start Program. It was nice working with them because they did much of the leg work with regard to the submission of medical data and they were also the liason between the patient and their insurance company. New Start also employs dieticians that consult with the patients on aftercare and anything else that comes up before or after the surgery where food is concerned.
The risks of the surgery were discussed at length during the seminars they gave and I always found Dr. Richardson to be very honest and thorough any time I had a question.
The only negative thing I experienced was the fact that they did not really have a method of preparing the WLS patient about the mental aspects of what was about to happen to them. We had psychological testing which was a requirement, but it was a one hour session with a licensed therapist that asked few relevant questions and offered nothing concrete in the way of just how difficult the process is mentally after you come out of the hospital.
As a whole, I would rate Dr. Richardson and the New Start Program very highly and would recommend them to anyone in my area that is considering this surgery.
I met with Dr. Richardson for the first time today, 1 day pre-op. He seems very knowledgeable and concerned, and he has a firm handshake. I know that seems silly to some, but it helps finish my original thoughts.
At St. Alexius he doesn't have a regular office staff it is a time share office, but the staff there is very nice and knowledgable.
He is very very involved in the aftercare set up and meals. I would definately rank him above average by far.
His time was very quick with us, but he did stay as long as I had questions. His physical examination was however short, but my file was very extensive.
He lives next door to my daughter, we live in a small rural town.
I have seen over 10 doctors and that includes going to Mayo Clinic last year.
I was very happy with his office and staff, he has a nurse named Patty we was so very helpful with my case. I had lots of medical reasons for surgery but nothing weight related so we have had a very hard time getting either an approval or denial. Last week she finally called them for the 100 time and told them we were going to proceed with the surgery but a law suit would follow. Suddenly they told her it was just approved.
Norbert's wife is also a surgeon so she is going to remove the tubing and staples on Tuesday but he insists on seeing me on Friday so he can see how I am doing.
His personal manner and bedside manner are both so great how could you ever seperate with one! Everyone should have such a caring doctor in their health lives. I feel he is like a life line for me as he is the only one who understood weight wasn't my problem and he decided to do something about it! He has been very open that damage to my lungs may be so severe that I may never heal 100% but anything is better than living like I was! I was really a prisioner in my home. I am sorry if you think I should have something bad to say but remember it is only my 5th day out so I have a very long way to go. Also remember my problems are the first trial for this surgery.
