University Hospitals Hospital
I thought Dr. Khaitan was great. She was nice very professionaland very in depth with explanations of surgery. This is the first time I have met with Dr. Khaitan so my opinion hasn't changed. The office is very neat but also very busy. The time I went there was a pretty long wait. However, the office staff is very nice and do their bestin keeping you informed. She is only there on Mondays so that's why it gets busy. Also because Emory is a teaching hospital, she has alot of students and that makes you feel like you are giving something back. The thing I least liked was the wait time. We had to wait almost 2 hours. You should know that Dr. Khaitan likes when here patients try there hardest to lose weight before and after surgery. She will schedule your surgery faster if you lose 10 pounds once you have met all of the other requirments. She really emphasizes aftercare as does the rest of the Emory Bariatrics team. They have there own nutritionists that you will see before and after surgery. They have support groups that meet every week. They do have a structered aftercare program and so far it sounds good, like there is no way you could fall through the cracks. They seem to be on your team in helping you to optimize your weight loss goals. She addressed the risks with surgery and explained certain ones in depth. However it was more informative and not to scare you. She did make sure that those were risks that not only you but your family are willing to risk as well. Overall I would give Dr. khaitan and the rest of Emory Bariatrics a 5 star rating and I would recomend them to anyone, they are great!
To me, surgical competence is of course better because you don't want someone in there that has mediocre surgical skills. We all feel that we deserve the best of the best. After all we are trusting these surgeons with our lives. However, bedside manner also matters to me too. Although not as important it is still a factor. If you can laugh with your doctor and feel more comfortable with him/her it can help make even a bad experience seem not so bad.
I liked her from the start. She was very informative & to the point(no sugar-coating). She gave me her expectations from me, potential risks & steps to begin the process. I've only had one visit w/ her thus far & am currently awaiting approval from my secondary. I am very pleased w/ her so far. 06-26-05
Dr. Khaitan is a very caring, experienced surgeon. She has a very structured approach to WLS. She performed a Lap RNY on me on May 9th. Prior to the surgery, she had a very strict regime which needed to be followed. Everything was done in order and was scheduled by her staff. At times, her staff appeared to be disorganized. I had to follow-up with them several times to get everything in order. Once everything was scheduled, however, (pre-op testing, meeting with the nutritionist, final meeting with Dr. Khaitan) it was smooth sailing. She did a great job! I wouldn't hesitate recommending her to anyone who was looking for a competent surgeon!
I really like Dr. Khaitan and the services she and her office staff provided on my initial visit. They are very thorough, and provided me with a very detailed list of what documentation my insurance company requires so I can be as complete as possible from the start. This practice (Emory Bariatrics) has a very comprehensive pre- and post-surgery program, and I feel blessed to have been led to this surgeon and this group of physicians.
The surgery went well and the staff in OR and recovery were WONDERFUL! When I was moved to my room the nightmare began. The staff was unattentive, slow to answer call lights. I was bombarded by interns , sometimes 5-6 at a time. I got a nosebleed after surgery, begged for tissues and was told the hospital had NO tissues. Was told by one nurse that I could get my own fresh water down the hall. WHen taken to radiology for swallow test was left sitting waiting for transport back to my room for more than 30 minutes. Had to be readmitted for dehydration one week later and it took six hours before they could find someone to get an IV started so that I could get fluids and meds. My husband had to call the head nurse and threaten to report this to my Dr. My experience at this particular hospital was one of the worst!!
She seemed very professional and expects a strict committment from the patients. The office itself was slow and overcrowded. The people seem nice enough. She scared me with two explanations of the procedures by two different people and the focus on the 1.7% that die from the surgery. After much time though I have decided to take the risk as I have tried on my own with limited results.
I have met Dr Leena Khaitan one time. She was nice but more worried about expressing how permanant this surgery is. She is a stickler for the rules, weight loss prior to surgery, working out 1 hour a day etc...
Two interns came in prior to Dr Khaitan and explained the RNY in detail drawing pictures of the proceedure before the Dr came in. I think they scared me more than her. LOL
She stressed the possible dangers a lot and that scared me too.
I like her ok and hope all will go well for me. I know she is serious about WLS.
The office staff seemed friendly but hurried and the office was PACKED. Took a long time to get in to see the Doctor.
I love a Dr with good bedside manner BUT if I had to chooseonly one I would choose a Dr with less bedside manner and more knowledge and experience.
