Temple Community Hospital Hospital
I originally had my gastric bypass surgery in 2007 at Temple Community Hospital. My experience was ok but not great. When my doctor recommended going back to the same hospital for my revision I was a little hesitant but ended up agreeing to it, and let me tell you I am so happy that I made that decision. The program is run by completely different people and has been completely re-done. The staff was so amazing beginning with admitting, the nurses and the Living Lighter program. I feel like my hand was held through everything which helped to make me less nervous. The nurses were great and treated me like I was a member of their family. Dr. Ganz answered all questions that I had before and after surgery. The Living Lighter staff visited me in the hospital everyday that I was there and even brought me some things before I was released. The support that is offered by the Living Lighter program and Dr. Ganz for after surgery is just amazing. There are many support groups, newsletters and other information sent to me on a regular basis. I am so happy that I chose this hospital, they did a great job in changing everything around. Now I have no excuse to not succeed on my weight loss journey, and I am off to an amazing start. I couldn’t be happier.
I only had one main issue. A lot of the nurses spoke broken or it seemed like little english. It was very hard to communicate with them. I'm not a very pushy person, but I had to learn to be very firm about making sure they understood me and I understood them. Sadly, sometimes I felt very rude, which was hard for me, but we were dealing with my life and the life of my husband.
For the most part they were very sweet and understanding. Once in awhile I'd get that one cranky "I don't want to deal with explaining this to you" nurse, but all in all it was okay. I'm going back there in june for my plastic surgery. I made sure that I was only staying one night :o)
Oh and because it's Los Angeles...At night it's a little loud. If you are using this hospital...Remember to ask for a sleeping pill the night before surgery.
My pain IV pump was broke for the first 2 days and FINALLY a nurse took the time, God bless her to change it. The nurse was putting the wrong pain meds, morphine, which I'm allergic to into the IV pump. If I hadn't been watching she would have put it into the pump, it was already open and ready to go. Very few of them understand English!!! I ended up with 2 infections from the IV's not being changed the way they should have been, consequently I ended up having to stay in the hospital for an extra day due to a fever which sucked major!!!! I had to wait sometimes on the toilet for 1/2 hour to get help.
I wouldn't put my dog in that hospital!!!!
This hospital is older, but nice. The private rooms are a plus. They also allowed my mom to be there with me, and even fed her, though the food wasn't very edible. The main issue with the hospital is the language barrier. The staff is hard working and attentive, but at times it was very hard if not impossible to communicate. It was a lifesaver having my mom there to help. When you are in pain and groggy, its hard to understand people with very strong accents and can be very frustrating, especially when they do not understand you well either. I suggest you keep someone with you to help you out
I was worried at first about having my surgery at this hospital due to reading feedback from prior patients. I was more concerned with my aftercare then my actual surgery. I can't speak for anyone else but myself. I felt that the staff was wonderful. I had no language problems whatsoever (I am hispanic but speak english as my first language). The nurses were kind, caring, attentive to my needs. They were never disruptive and allowed me rest. They were good in checking on me periodically and were very careful not to wake me. (I know this because a couple of times they walked and I pretended to be asleep). I have absolutely nothing negative to say about my stay.
