Tampa General Hospital (COE) Hospital
MY SURGERY WENT FINE. I DID NOT SEE MY SURGEON POST-OP AT ALL. INSTEAD I SAW HIS 'PEOPLE'. I HAD AN ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC HOSPITAL STAY. THE NURSES (EXCEPT FOR ONE) IGNORED ME AND THE OTHER PERSON IN OUR ROOM. DURING THE NIGHT ALL I COULD HEAR WAS LAUGHING IN THE HALLWAYS. THE NURSING STAFF DID NOT (IN MY OPINION) PROVIDE SUFFICIENT SERVICE.
In all, the hospital stay was ok. I felt I needed to bug the staff for pain meds and they only stayed on top of the meds that were given to me through an IV. Once I was off of those, I took ones that were crushed but had to bug the nurse for it. They did not stay on top of it.
The cleaning crew was horrible. They kept me up consistently and two of the cleaning staff argued in my room at midnight while I was trying to sleep. I sat up best I could and yelled at them. It was disrespectful. I let the nurses know to report them.
I can definitely say that my level of care through the Dr's there were top notch and they visited me at least twice a day which was comforting.
The nurses were very nice, but just very busy. That's the case in any hospital though.
I cant say enough about the staff...amazingly understanding, let my family stay with me 24 hours a day for my entire 5 day stay. Nurses responded immediately to any needs I had, and everyone was smiling...even the dietary folks. It was such a positive experience. My only suggestion would be to ask for extra things you need, as they might not automatically suggest them. I needed a trapez to help me sit up and get out of bed, and a lift for the potty when I went home. Both things I had to mention, but then they got them immediately. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them again.
