Ascension St. Vincent - Carmel Bariatrics Hospital
I had one excellent nurse and the rest were ghosts. I felt ignored and neglected and literally shoved out the door when it was time for me to leave. In ICU, my only nurse was about 39 weeks gestation and could hardly move -- that made two of us and a bad situation. The nurses in ICU were loud and had endless snacks laying out everywhere. I found it very insensitive.
St. Vincent's has a bariactric unit that I can't imagined is being out done anywhere. The staff was great, the area I was in was all bariatric patients so we could wonder the hallways and meet and support each other. I had some IV trouble so I was sent to the radiology dept. for a procedure and there were 3 women and a female doctor that made me feel at home and did there work with a min. amout of pain on my part!
I met with Dr. Inman in a group setting first. She was very personable and informative regarding genetics, environment and intake. She walked you through the steps of surgery and addressed all my fears before ever meeting one on one. Once the seminar was over she was quick to meet personally with each person. She does not spend a lot of time with you but if you ask questions she will stop and answer each one. I really liked her and it was obvious she knew what she was doing. For any that are looking to meet her be prepared for a long visit. I signed in at 1:30pm, the seminar began around 2pm and by 3pm we were ready to meet one on one. I left around 415pm. As you can see it is not a quick visit but it goes fast with a lot going on.
4/22/02 I thought I would update on Dr. Inman's office. Vicky is wonderful to deal with and very understanding. I spoke with her about some questions I had and she was very informative. Also, they have already sent in for approval in less than a weeks time. Personally I was not expecting such a quick turn around but was happy to hear that. She told me to wait 5 working days and begin calling the insurance company. Most likely they will say they do not have it and it will need to be faxed to a certain number and person. So in five days I will know at least the status of it in my insurance companies hands.
5/02 Well I have not yet made it to the insurance review yet. I got a call to have further testing and a consultation with Dr. Inman in July. Since I am having a revision additonal steps are in this process. I have to say that I have been working with Colleen and she has been very understanding and positive helping me. So far everyone has been great at Dr. Inman's office and at the Center.
I had my first consutation with Dr.Inman on March 18, 2002. She seems to be a very caring doctor that put me at ease right away. My sister had surgery with her 2 years before and also liked her very well. The staff at the bariatric center at St. Vincent arranged the first consultion and were very helpful in getting things started. Dr Inman was very good about pointing out the risks involved and the aftercare that is required. She pointed out that the surgery is a tool to help with weight loss and follow up support is very important. All her patients are required to meet with a physiciatrist once for an evaluation to see if you are a good candidate for surgery. On May the 7th, the surgery coordinator called and told me that my insurance had approved the surgery and gave me my surgery date and scheduled my pre op testing. She was very nice and led me through what I needed to do to set up part of the testing. I hope things go as smooth with the surgery.
