Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery (CHRIAS) Hospital
He was patient, explained everything thoroughly and took the time I needed to answer my questions.
His extensive classes and testing was annoying at first but when it was time for my surgery I was totaly prepeared in every way.
As a medical professional I can honestly say that I would recommend Dr. Irgau and his staff to everyone!
I enjoy the support meetings and enjoy the different topics that are covered at PMRI.
I did a lot of research prior to the first meeting and was absolutely positive he is the right physician for me.
Dr. Isaias Irgau personifies friendliness from the moment you meet him. You can tell he's an honest man by just looking into his smiling eyes. I felt completely at ease the moment he shook my hand, although it was the scariest thing I'd ever contemplated going through. He answered all of my questions and I never felt pushed at all. He made sure I understood the decision was mine entirely and he explained the risks of the surgery honestly with me. The team at Chrias, Drs. Irgau, Wynn and Peters and their entire staff are professional and courteous. I'll never forget what Dr. Irgau told me when he visited me in the hospital as I was waiting to be discharged. He shook my hand and told me, "If you need anything ... I don't care if you lost your watch and you need to know what time it is ... call us." That says it all in a sentence about the type of care I've received and will continue to receive. I would recommend this team of doctors to anyone fighting and losing the weightloss battle.
Dr Peters is a newer surgeon to the practice; however, I trust him completely. Through discussion of my current health, we determined that I should undergo a colonoscopy. The colonoscopy (performed by Peters) saved my life. At 29 years old, I had a polyp that would have developed into cancer within 1 year.
So far, Dr. Peters has had a great beside manner and seems to be dedicated to the care of his patients.
From the very first visit, I knew that I had chosen the right group. Everyone, from the office staff to Dr. Irgau himself was wonderful. While I think that the first visit is both exciting and frightening for most of us, I was treated with kindness and respect. Everyone that I have met through this group (especially those on the "other side") has been so helpful. The required classes through PMRI really prepare you for life after surgery with the support of a dietitian and psychologist. It's also great knowing that they will all be there to support me in the future.
My first impression of Dr. Wynn was a good one. She is a petite woman, but don't let her size fool you. She was very informative, and pressed the importance of the aftercare program. I had a lot of questions and concerns. She answered every thing without hesitation. She also didn't minimize the fact that this surgery is risky. Her office staff was very friendly, and very helpful with scheduling the other appointments that are required. At this point in my journey (I have two appointments left before they will schedule my surgery)I would rate her, and her staff with an A+.........Bonnie
My first impression on Dr. Wynn and Iragau reflected a team that complemented each other. Methodically precise persons. Beside attitueds with a mission - Ensuring a viable and safe experience for me as a potential and now Post Gastric Bypass patient. My view has not changed over time.
As of this time I find the office staff friendly and sensitive to the emotional needs of the gastric bypass patient. When I first met Dr. Wynn, I was taken back by her honesty as well as Dr. Iragau's. I realized as I proceeded with the surgery preparations that the direct honesty had an impact on my success. Pre and Post care, what to expect and the complications of Gastric Bypass Surgery were further complimented by a strategically structured program. I rate the doctors and their staff extremly high. What I find most remarkable is the fact that both doctors perform the surgery. It just made me feel secure knowing both were attending at my surgery. I have been complication free. The only exception has been my own ignorance. I copiously consumed a product that impacted my blood values, the resulting anemia has been reversed. The only area of opportunity is in the structured program that is facilitated by a third party vendor. I would really prefer that the doctor's office handle that aspect (In a perfect world anyway). My sister is about to go through Gastric Bypass and unlike me needs more nurturing, I am thankful she gets that from the surgeons and staff. Surgery and the decision to have elective surgey can in itself be dramatical and traumatic. The pure volume of processing a massive request for obesity help can be overwhelming, so I say overall, the program is effective and it works. Like anything, success is in your hands and remember that the words you speak reflect who you are;when you run in to kinks in the road because truly Bypass surgery is a journey, remember that the person on the other side of the desk will react to the words you speak. Take time to think of how you would like to be approached, and then react. My preference is surgical competence over bedside manner. I've been fortunate to get both in Wynn and Iragau.
My date for surgery is contingent on lots of things, but my insurance company doesn't cover the procedure for anyone after 3/31, so we are trying. My first impression about Dr. Peters was that he was calm and very kind and caring. Also, living in Delaware and being from Oklahoma, I was glad to see that Baylor diploma on his wall (Texas, not Oklahoma, but close enough). :) The office staff has been AMAZING. I think Misty must be the most patient, kind angel of a person I have ever dealt with and is always very kind and calm regarding my plethera of questions. Dr. Peters talked about the risks and the changes involved. He is involved with PMRI for the before and after care. I think he is great so far and I am excited (and nervous).
I think Dr. Wynn is awesome and even though I have not meant Dr. Irgau I had to speak to him recently by phone, concerning some meds I was taking. He was very respectful of my feelings and had a very caring attitude. Dr. Wynn is very straight forward and honest. She will answer any questions you have. My Sister, who I have to get to register at the site, was a patient of Dr. Wynn's appox. two years ago. She is now a size 6-8 and very happy, she credits Dr. Wynn for giving her, her life back. Now you must know surgery is not a cure all. This is a relationship. The Dr's can't do all the work. This is a reality to me, because I am one of those people who wants to wake up in the morning 200 lbs lighter and keep on getting up. In reality I have to make many sacarfices and surrender to do what the Doctors tell you do.
The one great thing about these doctors is that I believe they are in it because they know they make a differnce in the life of obese people. If you qualify for this surgery then you know what I am talking about. Our days are full of hopelessness and we down on ourselfs thus cauing others to look down on us as well. I think what Dr. Wynn and Dr Irgau has brought to the obese people of Delaware is a hope that we can lose weight and keep it off. The hope that we can some day, enjoy amusement parks again, go to movies without worrying about the seat sizes or ask for a booth instead of a table. Need I say more.....
