St. Agnes Hospital Hospital
I was ignored post-op , took 40 minutes to get nausea meds. Put in a room with a back patient that had the best meals! The patient raved about her meals! Slept with the TV blarring. I complained 4 times and no nurses cared. She was hot and got a fan, I was hot and was offered a cloth, no fan. THey directed the fan at her and her only! Pain meds took 30 minutes to get. They moved my bed while I was in the bathroom and did not lock it. I amlost fell on the floor when the bed moved across the room! No baths were offered. Pumps always beeping. The nurses let the call buttons go off in the hallway for 20 min! Never turned them off in 3 days! It was loud! It was hot! I was in pain! I had to smell great meals! A real nightmare! Oh not to mention the light being turned on over my face ,..... then someone would say hello! No warning! Nasty place to have an illness!!!!! I am not the first to have the same experience.
The care I received was excellent the first 2 days on the 2nd floor. When I was moved to the 4th floor the care was not good. I called for pain medication and about 30 minutes later the nurse said she forgot what I had called her for. It was another half hour before she returned with the medicaiton.
The first meal tray I recieved on the 4th floor - a roach crawled across my tray.
I dropped my pager and it was 2-1/2 hours before anyone checked on me.
On the second floor there was a linen closet in my room and a very young male orderly or volunteer kept coming into my room unannounced. When I asked why he explained. I asked the nurse if she would have him knock before entering as he caught me coming out of the bathroom or in bed not properly covered. I was embarrased.
The admitting area is very efficient having already pre-registered me over the phone. The gentlman named Shawn in billing is not so nice though. He is very short with the people there and he tells you if you don't have your co-pay in here 7 days before surgery that you will have your current surgery cancelled and you would have to go all through everything again to reschedule. He has no tact or sympathy with people. I received the same response from others at the support group meetings. The hospital has an excellent pre and post op classes in a support group setting. They also demand that you attend their pre surgery class. This is essential for your healathy recoevery. Arlene Swanko is the Nutririonalist that is there for you all the time if you have questions about how the food works for your benefit and stresses keeping a food diary so that your health doesn't decline shortly after surgery. Cathy Carr-Younger ios the coordinator of the program for DRs. Singh and Averbach. She is 4 years post op for the gastric by pass and she is a plethra of information. She especially makes program special because she 'has been there and done that!' first hand.
The surgeons are great. You will have 2 surgeon in the OR with you during the surgery, possibly some intern doctors along with them. I had 5 interns in there also with the 2 surgeons. The only are inside the hospital that I felt that there could be improvement is the education of the intermediate care nurses on the 2nd floor. If you wear a C.P.A.P. you will go to that floor the first day instead of the surgery floor on the 4th floor. The nurses apparently are not instructed to get you up and moving and they seem very overloaded with work. It took forever for the nurses on the 2nd floor to respond to you for anything. The general surgery 4th floor nurses are all wonderful. There are a lot of clinical nurses going for their RN there too and they were more than willing to help you with anything. Many times the nurses are as good to you as you are to them so try to be as pleasant as you can even though you may be in pain. The rest in any hospital is almost non-existant and St. Agnes is no different. But your stay is short so make the best of it. Overall I would still rate my stay and their service as excellent.
