SSM Health Weight Management Services Hospital
The nursing staff was not very well informed concerning the needs of post bariatrc surgery patients. Mistakes with my medication were made several times, and I was given incorrect information concerning what I should do after being released. Fortunately I'm, well informed and recognised these errors and prevented potentially disastrous results.
the first night the care was excellent the 2nd day the shift was horrible I went from 5am till 3pm drain was not emptied or the catheter was not empty which made me feel like crap. Sugar levels went down then nurse didn't even have me in the computer to get soup so I had to wait for the computer to recognize me. Got my stomach pillow at 9:00pm the second night and got the breathing thing at the same time. The soup was cold most of the time the popsicle was melted some of the times. Last day there took 2hours to get lunch and then it was the wrong soup and the popsicle was totally melted. Did not want to wait any more to leave the hospital.

The Weight Loss Institute is great but the hospital itself needs some serious work, especially with their medical staff. My support person and I were ignored by staff repeatedly when we told them I was bleeding alot and felt like I had a fever. 24 hours later, a nurse did come on shift who listened but by then my temp was 102.5 and I was bleeding out of my drain every 20 minutes. I was put in the step down unit just before and after my 2nd surgery and it was dirty (esp the bathroom), light bulbs were out for days. It also didn't look as updated and nice as the rest of the hospital. Some nurses refused to dispense extra pain medication to me even though it was ordered by my surgeon that I could have it if needed. I was in serious pain and was badgered to walk (even though I already was). I am a very hard stick during blood draws and finally (after ripping up my arms and hands) they brought someone in with an ultrasound to get my IV's in. Hours later, one nurse needed blood and, instead of getting help like I begged, tried to take it out of the top of my thumb joint. There were two nurses who were very good and helped me however they could. That was it. I have nightmares about my 5 days in this hospital.
