River Oaks Hospital Hospital
The main problem that I had was with the nurses. Nurses can make your stay wonderful or horrible. Some nurses were wonderful. I had one ICU nurse that sets out above the rest because she gave me a sponge bath and was just overall very gentle and considerate. My advice would be to make sure that you stay on top of what you are supposed to eat, drink and which medicines you are supposed to be taking. Make sure you ask questions. What am I taking? What is this for? What time will I have to take this again? Be pushy if you have to because this is your comfort and your life that we are talking about here!
No one enjoys being in the hospital, and it was especially difficult for me because I ended up having to stay in for 10 days. The nurses were great, for the most part. There was remodelling going on during my stay, so I did end up having to switch rooms several times. It was inconvenient, but not horrible. The only complaint I have about my whole stay is that the nutrition staff and the kitchen did not have their acts together AT ALL when it came to the needs of gastric bypass patients. Almost every food tray I received while I was there had something on it that was inappropriate for a gastric bypass patient. It was a good thing that I has made myself very familiar with what I was supposed to be ingesting at each stage ahead of time. I actually had to explain to the dietician what I could and couldn't have. They never did get it right the whole time I was there. Hopefully things have improved.
