River Oaks Hospital Hospital
The ICU staff is the best I have ever incountered. I'm alive today because they were so dedicated to me and my care. I spent 3 days on life supprt while they took very good care of me and my family. Never once did they ask my family to leave or treat them in any other way other than a very caring manner. They inspred me to want to get better after a very serious complication surgery that almost took my life.
The only nice members of the hospital staff were unfortunately people I did not see for very long. The pre-op staff--Beulah, Sherree, Alan, Dr. Castro. And the radiology staff. My only complaints about privacy was that I had a very noisy neighbor who didn't shut her mouth from the time I saw her in the waiting room until she left our hospital room. The staff was unresponsive to either one of our needs, even leaving myself with a bedpan that was literally about to overflow for 20 mins., we had to take care of it ourselves. I would never, ever go to this hospital again.*please note, this is my personal opinion*
ICU nurses were excellent, best I have ever experienced. General floor nurses were friendly, courteous, and very helpful. I am the type of person that likes to be left alone while I recuperate. They allowed this to a certain extent. They still had to follow protocol, but they were always courteous, kind, and symphathetic with me if I was not in the best of moods. I slept 75% of the time I was there, but they were always supportive of me, and encouraged me as I walked and got stronger. I would definitely recommend this hospital to others. It was a great experience, except I hate needles and I did not like having my blood drawn everyday.
I was the blessed recipient of a PCA (pain) pump. No pain was experienced other than general soreness, but I cannot imagine a better stay. Use this as your goal. Surgery in the afternoon of Thursday - Friday afternoon I WENT HOME because I felt like it, because I was ASKED! - Sunday I'm enjoying the 4th of July (creamed baked potato soup, thin, thank you!) and all it's glory. I even took a dip in our new inground pool! No swimming, only wading and riding my "noodle." THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
