Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Hospital
Dr. Quilici is very professional and organized. He is an expert in laproscopic procedures. He has a quiet but engaging humor. His office staff are very helpful and Sally, the dietician juggles an amazing amount of people and paper work with amazing ease. Dr. Quilici has his own support program for pre and post op. Sally Myers coordinates pre and post op.
Dr. Q appears to be one of the best surgeons in the area of bariatric surgery. I have only had a couple of visits with him, but he answered my questions fully and explain the proceedure with me. I have researched him fully and he does have the credentials and the backround to do this surgery. He can appear to be abrupt, but you can tell he cares about his patients. His office staff, especially the Sally the nurse that schedules the proceedure and does all the nutritional things is the BEST. She is always there to speak to you and has really allowed me to express my fears without the feeling of being judged. She is great. The staff are all kind but very rushed. The office is always full and you often have to wait. But I guess it's ok when you are waiting for the best. So far I would rate hime a 10 because to me competence is more important than bedside manners.
THE FIRST IMPRESSION I HAD ON MY SURGEON WAS, THIN, YOUNG, CUTE LITTLE GUY.
HIS OBESITY STAFF IS WONDERFUL, ORGANIZED, AND SO DAMN HELPFUL.
I REALLY DON'T KNOW THE SURGEON YET. HE SEEMED VERY BUSINESS LIKE, AND I'M NOT SO I WILL BE WORKING ON HIM.LOL
HE SEEMS TO BELIEVE IN WHAT HE IS DOING AND DOESN'T JUDGE YOU BECAUSE OF YOUR OBESITY.
THE AFTER CARE TALK WAS WITH SALLY, SHE DOES EVERY THING BUT THE SURGERY. SHE IS WONDERFUL AND HANDLES ALL THE INSURANCE PROCEDURES AND GIVES AFTERCARE MEETINGS.
SALLY WENT OVER EVERY THING ABOUT THE SURGERY AND SHOWED ON HANDS MATERIALS AND PROTION SIZES. SHE ALSO HAD A FOAM STOMACH WITH THE ACTUAL STAPLES SO I COULD SEE AND TOUCH THEM. SHE IS SO INFORMATIVE.
OF COURSE, SURGICAL COMPETENCE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WHEN YOU ARE DEALING WITH SURGERY OF ANY KIND BUT I ALSO LOVE A FUNNY DOCTOR WE WILL SEE HOW HE IS AFTER SURGERY.
I FOUND THE DOCTOR AND HIS STAFF MORE THAN WONDERFUL.
Other than an EXTREMELY long time in the waiting room (1-1/2 HOURS!), I found Dr. Quilici's staff to be professional and competent. I understand that with the popularity of this surgery, it is necessary to weed out the "undecideds", so I was given a notebook of information to read, and then met with the dietitian, who was extremely kind and very knowledgeable.
Dr. Quilici's aftercare program is probably the most important part of the entire process because once surgery is over, it's up to YOU for the rest of your life! Several support groups are available for both pre- and post-op patients and their partners, which helped both me and my family get answers to the questions we had.
Personally, I can would prefer a skilled surgeon above bedside manner, and my friends who are surgical nurses all told me that Dr. Quilici is "the best". I'm very confident that he explained the risks/benefits, and provided me with significant documentation to allow me to make an informed decision as to whether this was the best choice for me or not.
I found him kind, and friendly from the start.
I had done my research, and knew he was the best at what he does.
I felt VERY informed with the material he supplied me with.(A huge manual listing every single thing you will experience, as well as a detailed describtion of the surgery itself, and all aftercare involved. He also has a website available for all of his patients)
His office is very well organized, the staff is friendly, and seemed very compassionate.
He seems to have some wonderful tools in place to help all of his patients become sucessful in their weight loss. As well as, he informed of every single aspect of surgery.
He absolutely emphasizes aftercare, as well as provides support groups for his patients that are held right from his office. He provides an in office RD, for all of your diet questions and issues before and after surgey as well. (She's wonderful!)
So far his bedside manner seemed to be warm and caring. I want both bedside manner and surgical competence from my Doctor. I think theyre both extremely valuable.
I think the only negative thing I would say is, the wait in his office is quite long. I would expect to be there a while, even with a appointment. Be patient, he and his staff are well worth it.
He was very quiet, but answered all of my questions. He is very caring and always available by phone. His office staff are typically good, but of course, not everyone is nice all of the time. The office did not check on my blook work until the day before surgery and I had to go in to a local hospital and do blood work when I was preparing for surgery because there was an error by the lab. That should have been checked earlier as I had done the blood work two weeks prior. Dr. Quilici has a great nutritionist that works with him named Sally and she was wonderful and always available by phone, e-mail and in person. His office told me that he has never lost a patient and they were in contact with me a lot after surgery and the months after that too. They have a support group and I went in to be examined at the office every month for 4 months afterward. Overall, he was excellent. He had good bedside manner, but I think that I appreciated that he was a good surgeon.
Dr. Quilici was recommended by my personal physician, upon meeting him he was kind and caring. So far the feeling from the start are the same. The staff try to be very accommadating and want you to feel comfortable. So far there is nothing bad I can say about him, anyone going to him should know he is very professional and an excellant surgeon. The emphasize before and after are well planned out there is no guess work. You recieve a book to read about the surgery and what to expect if you decide to have the surgery. On a scale of 1-10 he is definately above and beyond 10!
