Presbyterian Hospital Hospital
My care in ICU was excellent. However once I was in a "step-down" unit I was ignored and was very upset by the lack of care given to me there. When I was finally in a regular room, my care improved.
My answer to the first question about being equipped to handle overweight patients got a poor response because I had to ask for a larger size gown, which was not readily available. Also when I was going to have an x-ray I was not offered a larger size wheel chair. They made me squeeze into a regular size one and it was a tight and very uncomfortable and also very embarrassing.
Presby was wonderful. I gave a big thank you to all of the staff that assissted me. I did not have to wait for anything. They were on target with everything from meds to help getting in the bathroom once I could get out of bed. They were also accomodating to my family members who were with me the 4 nights i was in. Great Hospital, I will you again if necessary.
Had surgery on Monday morning, got a room at 5:30pm, at 2:30am told them the bed was very painful and I couldn't sleep. There was a bar coming through. Took them 15 hours to get me another bed. I think I only got it then because the bed finally broke down and my sister went to somewhere and complained. Then and only then did I get a new bed. Then, they completely forgot to give me my first shot of blood thinner medicine. They never changed my sheets on my bed, my family did it. It took them day and a half to get me some toilet paper. The only reason I got it when I did was I was in the bathroom having my first bowel movement and had no paper. Next, it took them three hours to put a new dressing on my drainage incision.
I believe that the nurses were doing all that they could do, but there was to big a work load for as many patients for the number of nurses that was staffed. I believe that had not my family stayed with me, it would of been worse than what it was. Privacy was no problem because I never saw anyone unless my IV went off or they came to check my blood pressure and temp. I will say that there were two nurses who were excellent. That was a nurse named Mary(she was a traveling nurse) and a nurse named Lisa.
I thought they treated me very very well. The bed was very uncomfortable. The staff was helpful, accomodating and respectful of my privacy. I had one bad day when I was waiting for my protein drink, and my hospital gown and I waited quite a while for both. However, I do know that the nurses and MA's were trying to find the large size gown and trying to get the kitchen to make my drink. But all in all I felt it was a very good experience.
I loved everyone at this hospital, they were all so supportive and so friendly. My CNA Rachel was AWESOME!!! I miss her. :( They got me a cot for my boyfriend and they didn't mind trying to step over him in the middle of the night while they were taking vitals, etc. I had a private room with a nice view of a park, I think this hospital is excellant.
