Park Plaza Hospital Hospital
My stay would have been better had I not had to stay in ICU, but after ICU they needed my space so they put me in what they called PACU and it was to say the least horrable. The staff didn't know how to deal with someone that just had gastric surgery. I was in a bed that was way to hard to get out of. There was no place for me to walk. I was there for 2 days cause the hospital didn't have any open beds for me. When I finaly got to a real room things got better. But, they couldn't get me a room on the gastric floor so I still had the nurses upset cause I didn't eat all my food when it came. They didn't understand 2 ounces every hour cause they had never delt with gastric patients before. Needless to say I was so glad to leave that place.
The night nursing staff was very unresponsive, not helpful at all and basically just changed the fluids and added the antibiotics as their job required. One nurse, after detaching my IV tubing from the catheter, actually held her (bacteria laden??) finger over the dripping end and then plugged it back into my IV catheter!!!!We had get ourselves to and from the restroom by ourselves (requiring adjusting the bed, taking off the stockings and unplugging our fluid monitor and getting in and out of the bed)despite being very sore and stiff. It was also difficult for us (in our sore condition) to change out our full urine pans in order to urinate in our own pans. None of the night nurses monitered this output by the way. Took 10-15 minutes for them to come to the call button. I don't believe they were understaffed, as they had 2-3 nurses and one LVN on duty. They talked and ignored us as we took our own walks and got ourselves in and out of bed.
The day shift was WONDERFUL,caring and responsive. If their night staff was comparable, I'd rate my stay as excellent instead of average.
