Methodist Hospital
My stay was over daylight savings time. It had been 4 hours since my last pain med, but since the clocks were turned an hour back, the nurse made me wait an extra hour.
Also, there were so few patients on the bariatric wing that they sent some of the nurses home. I was left with a nurse that did not specialize in WLS. I had to do some educating.
The dietician that visited me in the hospital was not very well educated in WLS either. I did not follow her recommendations. I followed the instructions I received from the office dietician.
My only comments were that the nurses seemed to be to busy for anything. I was supposed to walk and some tubing came out, took 3 hours to get anyone to fix it. Couldnt find pain meds on my chart, tried to give me 2 of the same medication within 2 hours as the 1st one wasnt charted. If I hadnt been asking questions and pushing I dont think some things would have been done by the nurses.
I would strongly recomend someone who is looking. This hospital is working on developing a world class Bariatric center and they a very close to achieving it. The nurse manager at Methodist is also a WLS person and knows exactly how to set things up for WLS patients. She even spoke to my husband about what else they could do to help the family etc...
The nursing staff was outstanding. I can't say enough about, Misty, Barb, Patti, Doris, Kate, Melissa these woman were all my angels during my stay. Thanks to each of them for there support and pushing when needed.
The nurses were so good to me. I cannot say enough about the nursing staff at Methodist hospital, they are the best!
Overall my stay was fairly good. I was thrilled with how quiet things were for the most part. But, I was a little frustrated with some of the nurses though it seemed as if they were either clueless or wonderful. There seems to be a lack of information (or consistancy) on how to care for bariatric patients. For example, one nurse might tell you one thing and the next something totally different. Or if you ask for something to be done one nurse might say, "no" and the next, "yes". The nice thing was if I didn't get answer I liked the first time, all I would have to do is wait until the next shift.
I felt that they took very good care of me. When I had a crisis after surgery, they were right on it and brought me through it. They were very helpful to my husband who was able to stay with me while I was in ICU and kept him informed of everything that was going on, what the monitors meant, encouraged him to talk to me and hold my hand, etc. They were very receptive to his needs concerns, and questions, as well as my own.
they were very nice and helpful
