Massachusetts General Hospital Hospital
The hospital staff in the Wang building was amazing. They were kind and professional. I wish I can remember all of their names (Kim, and Jean, were great.) My only problem, wasn't really the hospital's fault. My roommate was a crazy 92 yr old guy, who would randomly start screaming during the night. Also he couldn't work his TV, so he would click from static to staic for hours. But honestly, the staff, the beds, and the experience were great.
A huge overwelming place initially. But people make the place. The morning of surgery I walked over from the hotel on the next block where I stayed the night before. My sister, due to meet me there, arrived very late due to car trouble. They dressed her in an OR jump suit and cap and brought her down to the OR (right outside the actual OR doors) to see me before I went in! The people in radiology were not very understanding with this patient who was less than 24 hrs. post-op with painful incisions.Other than that, kindness and compassion was evident throughout!
If I am ever hositalized again I will be sure to ask for a private room. I was in the hospital 5 days. I had 4 different roommates all with very loud (at all hours) visitors. One of my roommates was allowed to have family sleep overnight. They should of put them in a private room.
I was completely ignored by the nursing staff during my stay. Whenever I buzzed, the response was a very long wait, and when they came, they seemed annoyed they had to come.
The first day I received my pain pill, which was a large pill, I asked the nurse to crush it because I could not take pills at this time. She would not. I asked repeatedly, but she would not. I had to CHEW IT.
I would definitely have surgery at MGH again, but I will not look forward to my stay. And as I said above, I will definitely pay the extra money for a private room.
Very well staffed on weekdays. Overall I was really impressed with the doctors and nurses.
My surgeon came in to see me 3 or 4 times in two days and was very positive.
Weekends are a bit tough. Had one nurse on Saturday night who was not at all helpful and was actually neglectful, after several attempts to get her help me, I asked for help from another nurse on duty, although not assigned to me was glad to help and was excellent. She actually solved a potentially huge problem, that the first nurse was ignoring.
The hospital was really noisy, everyone from the nursing staff to the cleaning staff. The paging system was extremely loud and so were some of the visitors on Saturday night.
The transporters were a bit rough and hit the walls at times. When I was being transferd, about four times, they swung the bed around in a jerky motion and I felt a bit nauseated.
Parking is $8.00 a day for patients and visitors.
