MaineGeneral Health Hospital
Dr. Trieu is a small, quiet man. He is a typical surgeon in that he is great at the surgical part and not so wonderful with the bedside thing. I am a low-maintenance patient, so no problem for me...for the high maintenance patient the office staff picks up the slack.rnHe is definetly a TEAM approach doctor...he does not even discuss the diet with you, that is not his specialty, he is the man behind the scalpel...let the well trained nutritionist deal with my foods, let him do his part...and I am a happy camper. It is all very structured, no surprises from this team.rnMy only complaint is that after my surgery he was in a rush to get to his next operation and he did not go out and let my husband know I was doing fine. I went in for a 1 hour surgery and after 2 hours my husband was almost in tears thinking something was really WRONG.rnThe hospital nursing staff checked it all out and let him know I was fine, and rushed him into recovery to see me.rnI don't think that is normal for him, the nurses seemed surprised by it.
My first impression of Dr. Trieu is that he is very knowledgeable in the Bariatric field and has good dr./patient relationship skills. His staff is wonderful and great at getting you answers to any questions you may have. My only hesitation was the fact that he is new to the Augusta area. However, he previously worked in bariatrics at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida and also did a specialized bariatric fellowship there as well. He specializes in Gastric Bypass Surgery. He empathizes post-op follow-up greatly for your best chance at success. The Maine General Bariatric Center which Dr. Trieu is part of has a special bariatric team that works with you both pre-op and post-op. This also includes support group meetings for Lap-Band patients and Gastric Bypass patients. Dr. Trieu was very straight-forward about the risks involved in the bariatric surgery. He answered all the questions I had. I would recommend Dr. Trieu as well as the Maine General Bariatric Center in Augusta. I believe both his surgical competence and bedside manner are excellent.
Very down to earth, honest. Explained the positives and possible negatives of the surgery. Provided me with his email address so that he could personally address any questions that I may have. I haven't had the surgery yet, but it has been approved by my insurance company. I have heard nothing but good things about Dr. Trieu.
The only complaint I have is, I was supposed to leave the same day and because of nausea I stayed over night. The nurses on the floor that my overnight room was on had no idea on what I could drink. They were bringing me juice, coffee, everything and they put straws in everything. I could only have water at first and I could use straws....haha oh well, I had to inform each person.
