Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery and Bariatric Care Hospital
Very informative, takes the time to explain things to you in detail. Answered all my questions without hesitation.
The staff at Cleveland Clinic have been very nice and supportive as well.
We discussed the pre-op and post-op information and will go into more detail as needed. He stressed that this is just a tool not a cure for my obesity.
Cleveland Clinic has a set structured schedule of things that must be done prior to surgery and after surgery, they are very organized in their efforts to help people with weight issues.
Dr. Chand is very kind, attentive and thorough. Since I began my journey about 4 years ago the program has really improved. When I started out there was no organization and I didn't really have a contact person to go to. Back at that time I kind of felt like I was flying by the seat of my pants. Now things are totally organized and they have an actual program for new patients including an aftercare program. Dr. Chand was very honest about risks/benefits and is also very enthusiastic. I would highly recommend Dr. Chand for both his surgical excellence as well as his wonderful bedside manner.
He was one that you gained trust and respect for immediately. Now that surgery is over and I am 2 months into post op, I can say that he was more than anyone could ask for before, during and after surgery. He kept my family informed during the procedure and after. He visited me the day after surgery while his team visited me other times.
He was honest prior to surgery by giving me all the information I needed to make a final decision - everything from risks of surgery as well as what to expect after surgery.
He is SUPERIOR!
My first impression is that he is a very throrough, but not terribly "personal" doctor...but that opinion changed over time. He has an incredible program in place with emphasis on "before" care...teaching his patients (with his staff of nurses, nutritionists and psychiatrist) what to expect, how to change your eating habits before the surgery and so much more...
His care during my surgery was excellent. I felt as though I was in excellent hands. His staff is wonderful...and his aftercare program seems to be as structured and complete as the before...though I'm still in the early stages of "after". He totally addressed all the risks but also let me know realistically what to expect after. I would recommend him very highly! The only thing that I would have liked better was to see him more...only saw him twice before the surgery, although I did see him and his staff daily in the hospital.
I was low on the totem pole for care(on the surgical floor),bring your own care giver. The nurses were busy with more severe patients.I was forgotten several times, when I asked for things or needed help.
One night nurse scolded me for not being more careful with my IV.
Children(5years old) were allowed to visit in my room till 10pm.
In O.R. for 1hr after surgery,no nurse available in the recovery room.In recovery room for 2 1/2hrs,finally I asked to see my husband.
My first impression of Dr. Chand was I thought he looked like a kid. Maybe 19 years old. My impression changed when he began to speak to me and explain in detail about the surgery. He was very patient with me and made sure I was well informed. He quickly let me know that he has performed hundreds of surgeries. His office staff was very pleasant and nice. They volunteered as much information as possible and worked with me for the convenience of my office visits. I can think of no dislikes excep he suggested I go on a liquid diet to lose weight before the surgery. He explained how important the aftercare is and how much time I would be off work. He speaks at a talk support group for future surgery patients and those that have already had the surgery. He emphasizes the risks and goes over them one by one. He lets you know how careful his surgery team is and overall makes you feel much better in soothing any fears you might have. He also lets you know that this surgery isn't for everyone. I like Dr. Chand and would rate him a 95 overall. He really knows his stuff! I think surgical competence is better, especially when you are going under the knife. Bedside manner is good for after the surgery.
I liked him right off. He was very personable. He explaned every thing in simple terms.
Dr. Chand has been great throughout the whole process. He explained everything well in the consultation and took his time. Dr. Chand is strict. You must see a psychologist a number of times, and a dietician. If you don't follow her instructions he will cancel your surgery date. After going through it all I am glad about all of the above. The mental part of the whole process is hard to prepare yourself.
The hospital floor you are placed at after surgery needs some improvement for gastric bypass patients. But it was just little things nothing major. The nurses were great there.
I chose Dr. Chand for his surgical competence and his reputation. Both are excellent. This being my first surgery ever I was very comfortable with everything do to the preparation by his staff.
Overall I would rate my entire experience a 95%. Dr. Chand is 100% in my book.
From the very beginning I was very impressed with Dr. Chand. He is thorough, considerate and efficient. I have had nothing but the best possible experience with the Cleveland Clinic and would recommend him to anyone.
I am happy with the aftercare. I have appointments every month so far. There are support opportunities that I have not chosen to attend, mainly because it is about a 2 hour drive for me. That is why I looking for online support.
All the possible risks of the surgery were very clearly discussed with me. That is one reason I elected the lap band instead of the Roux-en Y. I felt that there were far fewer chances of complications with this surgery.
I would rate him excellent overall, but say that he is far the best in surgical competence, which is by far the most important.
