My experience with LVH so far has been nothing but excellent. I'm scheduled to have surgery 1-23-2009 so I will update my experience after my inpatient stay although I have no doubt it will be a good experience. I'm told by former patients and friends who have already gone through the surgery that they do everything in their power to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I'm very excited about my upcoming surgery and have no reservations about going through this proceedure.
Dr. Boorse was very professional and clearly very experienced. I thought he was slightly more personable at the seminar than when I met with him individually. He answered all of my questions and allowed me to press him on things that were a question. rnrnThe reputation of Dr. Boorse in the community is outstanding.rnrnI have had problems with his Bariatric Coordinator. She appears to be overworked. She is pleasant enough to talk to on the telephone, but she appears to me to have dropped the ball in dealing with my insurance company. I hope that I am wrong about this.rnrnAddendum. I think that I was wrong. She is now following through and very helpful. I think that she is overworked?rnrnAddendum 2. Surgery went well. Dr. Boorse is an outstanding surgeon, but because he is so busy, when I had a complication, it took many hours before he was able to come help me. His residents were good, but not able to take care of the problem.
Overall, I received good care at LVH. The staff were responsive to my needs for pain medication and to multiple requests to move into different positions or receive help for tasks. The nurses were generally pleasant and professional, but not warm; one in particular seemed very unfamiliar with weight loss surgery and with the level of my physical discomfort. I was surprised that it did not seem as "specialized" for WLS patients as I had anticipated. My biggest complaint was the bed- it was horribly uncomfortable on my back and I got very little rest, as the chairs were not much better. In general, I believe I received competent care at LVH. *These statements are reflections of my own personal impressions of LVH. I make no claims as to what others may experience.*
