Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center Hospital
Kaiser Richmond has a small med-surg unit (30 beds or so), but from the time I went into pre-op and left from med-surg they were all great. I can't tell you how friendly the nursing staff was, because they have left me speechless. There was not a single insensitive nurse during my stay. I was incredibly well taken care of, they let my wife stay the night and she helped me so much. I hit my call light once because my IV went dry and the nurse was in there in less than 2 minutes. I just can't say enough great things and I would strongly, strongly enourage anyone in Northern Cal Kaiser to request Kaiser Richmond. Dr. Fisher, my surgeon, was top notch and has the best bedside manner of any surgeon I've met and better than most other internists I've interacted with. Great, great experience and I'll be sending the nursing staff a thank-you card because they were that great!!
When I met Dr. Park I was immediately comforted by her gentleness. Her skill was evident in that she is the head of surgery. I was her again today, a little more than 6 months post op and again, was grateful that she had been my surgeon. She's always made me feel good about my decision and my progress. My family was so touched by how she took time with them after the surgery to talk about how it went. She's awesome and anyone who has her for a surgeon will be in very capable hands!
Dr. Park is a gentle lady and listens very well. She was very understand that I had already lost a lot of weight before coming to her clinic and told me to only lose another 18 pounds. I found that to be very fair. I only met her 1 time so I will update later
I had my first meeting with Dr. Park this past week, and WOW - do I feel fortunate. This surgeon spent an hour with me! My first impression as she walked in the door was that she was confident and I was nervous. As I talked with her and listened to her a bit, my nervousness disappeared. She was very cool, professional, and nice. She definately emphasized aftercare and fully explained the surgery. I had a list of 20 questions typed up and she took the time to listen to and answer every one of them. Although something in here says no person can be the \"best\" in all aspects, I'm inclined to disagree with that statement. I think Dr. Park is the best doctor FOR ME - others may not feel this way or have this experience, but, if you belong to Kaiser, don't look at the surgery as the cure all that will keep you from being fat (that's your job, not the surgeon's job), you're doing the work and willing to spend the rest of your life doing the work and taking responsibility for yourself and what you put into yourself, Dr. Park may be the right Dr. for you. I would rate her a 10 frankly - I'll re-rate her post-op obviously, I can't speak to her surgical competence, but she is the Chief of Bariatrics at Kaiser Richmond and one of the founding team that brought it there, so I'm thinkin' she's extremely competent. And her bedside manner, based on what I received from her during our first meeting is perfect for my needs. Listens, compassion, pleasant, and nice.
The nurses in pre op were calming and friendly. The or staff didn't even tell me to count backwards I was out in seconds. In Recovery I woke up to alot of gas pain. Push the button like crazy. After leaving the recovery room it was all down hill. The room was small and hot. They were painting the hallways at 7pm which smelled great. The nurses and staff were rude and loud. No one was on the same sheet of music. My roommate almost smothered by a plastic pillow that some how covered her face. I spent the first hour sitting outside on the terrace. I just wanted the cath out. No one told me to walk and thank god no one woke me to walk...though how can you sleep with the am staff chatting about their weekend so loudly in the hall at 3 am. I finally put a note on the door requesting it to be closed. My surgeon Dr Fisher visited me and said I could leave when I was ready...after he left 3 nurses tried to give me the bums rush after I told them my husband was picking me up at a specific time.(I even asked if anyone was scheduled for the room I was in and they said no) And the rudest had to be an ICU nurse who came in and literally ripped the leg massage things off my legs and threw them in the garbage... right after my Dr. and I joked about me taking them home he said I could keep them (but not the machine) and then she was going to rip out my IV and I said no MY nurse was going to give me another bag of fluid...and this ICU nurse got really huffy and said ok I'll let you have the rest of this one (it was 1/4 full) as it emptied my nurse came in and have me a new bag. I had to go to the ER later in the week because of a high temp and the richmond ER very nice as well as the x ray/cat scan staff.
