Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Hospital
I have to say that everything except the nursing care was good. I am a nurse myself and know what is supposed to be done in a daily assessment. I don't feel that a proper nursing assessment was done once while I was there.
Nobody even looked at my drain the entire first day. When I looked at it that evening, I found it was kinked and didn't drain anything. I got some tape from a tech and fixed it myself. Only one nurse included my incisions and drain in his oncoming assessment. Only one nurse listened to my lungs (that was because she had a student nurse with her) because she didn't do it the first day.
My second day, I went approximately 7 hours without seeing any nurse and I had to remind the tech to empty my drain and catheter.
I only had one nurse who checked on me regularly and he was on night shift. I would definately recommend you have an advocate there to help you get the attention you may need!
Otherwise, the hospital was clean and bright. I asked the recovery nurses if I was going to have a private room and they got me one. The cafeteria was clean and provided decent meals for my family who stayed with me.
Staff was very supportive, kind, and professional. Hospital was clean, secure, and sanitary. Private rooms are more than accomodating for patients. Staff to patient ratio appeared to be fine. Carpeted, wide hallways with handrails to walk anytime day or night. Many thanks to Ezra & Loida (my nurses).
I think this was probably the most positive experience of my life!! The nurses and staff were beyond wonderful!! They were caring and respectful, most of all, human!! They treated me like they would a good friend. No matter what I needed or the time of day they had a big smile on their face and were happy to help. Fair Oaks Inova had a few things in the room that I just loved!! First of all I was concerned coming into my room that I wouldn't find a clock. There was a clock right in front of me while I was in my bed so I couldn't miss it. There was also a day by day calender which they changed daily so I would know the date!! I loved my bed too. It had a foot rest on it so the matress wouldn't shift forward and a bar across the top with a triangular pulley we could use to pull ourselves up with. It was by far the most comfortable bed I've ever had in a hospital. I would definitely use Fair Oaks Inova again, and would happily recommend it.
