Hurley Medical Center Hospital
verv caring and very likable. My oppion has not changed. The office staff is very friendly and understanding. It's a little early yet. (I just had my surgery July 6th 2004) but so far I hav'nt found anything I dont like about him. They do Empasize being in a support group and I am trying to find one close to me ( within 10 mile radius of where I live.) I think that surical competence and good bedside manner help tremendously with any fear you might have.GO into it thinking positive.
I think Hurley is the best choice. I think they allow you to stay for the days you need to and they keep you on the burn unit which is intensive care so you get great personal attention. I found the nurses and everyone very nice. They even let my youngest son come up to the waiting room just inside the door to the floor. He was too young to come onto the floor (you have to be 12 or 14 I think to come up to intensive care) but they let him wait there and I walked down to spend a few minutes with him.
I had surgery on Tuesday and finally HAD TO ASK ON FRIDAY if I could have clean linens. It was the only time my bed was changed and I left on Sunday. No one came in to clean my room other than the trash. Was not told about the large shower area, was expected to shower in a very tiny stall in my room. Waited a minimum of an hour whenever pain med was requested, AND HAD THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE WHILE HAVING MY CATHETER CHANGED BECAUSE IT WOULD ONLY DRAIN WHEN I STOOD UP. Which the second one had the same problem but I kept quiet about it.
The day staff was wonderful! Thay were curteous, kind, cheerful and helpful. The hospital was clean and well stocked with supplies. The night staff treated us like we were interrupting their card game. The were moody, rude and uncaring. When I complained about the night staff, the doctors and nurses said they knew it was going on, and that they were sorry it happened. They didn't seem like they were going to do any thing about it though.
I COULDNT HAVE HAD BETTER NURSES THEY ALL ARE COMPASSINATE AND KIND AND CARING.THE DOCTORS WERE EXCELLENT.
THE PHARMACY HAS A PROBLEM APPARENTLY FINDING THINGS:ALMOST 5 HOURS ,YES 5 HOURS FOR A SUPPOSITORY SO I COULD HAVE A DAMM BOWELL MOVEMENT.THE NURSES AND DOCTORS WOULD AT LEAST LET ME KNOW EVERY HOUR .MR SPIESS ITS ON ITS WAY.I SHOUDVE SENT MY WIFE TO WALGREENS IT WOULDVE BEEN DONE.I WAITED I BELIEVE OVER NITE AND INTO THE NEXT AFTERNOON IT WAS FOR AN IV ANTIBIOTIC .OLL NEVER FORGET THE GIRL THAT BROUHGT MY DINNER TRAY IN AND SET IT DOWN PICKED UP MY LUNCH TRAY AND SET IT ON TOP OF A WASTE CAN IN MY ROOM AND STARTED TO WALK OUT .I STOPPED HER AND TOLD HER I WASNT GOIN TO NEED THAT ONE ANYMORE ,SHE TURNED AND SMILED AND SAID I DONT PICK UP.WELL GUESS WHAT NEITHER DID ANYBODY ELSE THAT NITE .SO THE ROOM HAD TEO TRAYS FOR THE BUGS TO EAT OFF OF.
My first impression of Dr. Farhan was a good one. He wasn't all that talkative but got right to the point. As I got to know him after surgery I really liked his professionalism but really appreciated his kindness. I had some complications after surgery and he was nothing but helpful and understanding. Since then he has performed my hernia surgery. Once again he did a fine job. He has a good sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye. I highly recommend him. I also liked Dr. Minasian. He is a very intelligent man. He is helpful and kind as well. The office staff was friendly. My only complaint is the waiting time in the lobby. I drive over an hour for my appointments then have to wait forever to get in to see the Dr. I also think that the aftercare follow-up program could be better. I think that surgical competence is most important. But I also feel it is so important to have someone who has emphathy as your surgeon. WLS is a highly emotional process, in most cases dealing with very sensitive issues with many years of heartache. You need a Dr. who makes you feel that you and your concerns matter.
I was very pleasantly surprized at the warmth and caring of the staff. I felt all of my needs were met promptly. It was a bit noisy at night, for I had a private room by the nurses station. Still, just to get a private room was worth it---if at all possible, do try to get one when you have your hospital stay. Hurley kept the bariatric patients on the 5th floor burn unit, which made me grateful. Because I was in t his special unit, I had to share my nurse with only one other patient the entire stay, and the nurses were not overburdened at all. Instead, they were patient, enthusiastic and responsive. I have nothing but good to say of the experience.
Dr. Farhan is very educated and experienced with this type of surgery. He is a trained trama Dr. and explains everything in detail so there's no misunderstandings or misconceptions about the procedure. Most of the office employees has had the surgery and it't very encouragable to know that you can make it! Dr. maenassin is the other trama Dr. that is also very knowledgable about the procedure he is there to make sure that you are healthy enough to endure the procedure and he is there personally to talk with you during the pre admission testing. The risks of the surgery are always taken into consideration the Dr's both stress the importance of aftercare and walking. Knowing about the procedure is very helpful and can make a world of difference because you have a full understanding of what is going to occur during the procedure. Hurley is a wonderful place to have the procedure.
