I thought it was wonderful. I didn't meet a single grumpy person in the 6 days that I was there!

My initial contact at Hurley Medical Center was with the pre-admission testing staff. My husband and I both knew immediately that this friendly, but very professional, group of people had their act together. Everything from checking in, breathing tests, blood draws, and meeting with the internal medicine specialist, Dr. Minasian, went smooth as silk, and all bases were covered. The day I went in for my surgery, they were ready for me in every way. The nursing staff was friendly, they all expressed their happiness and good wishes for me, got me all set for surgery, and I was on my way. Wonderful. I didn't have time to get scared or worked up, they were ready to rock and roll! The OR staff was so proficient, the anesthesiologist was fun, and I love Dr. Obeid...I did sleep through surgery :-). They communicated well with my husband, I got to see before I went to my room, then he was there and they got me settled...I had a wonderful room mate, our nurses were extremely attentive and responsive and all so encouraging. When it came time for any changes, like cleared to be off the monitor, time to go for testing, cleared for liquids, cleared to take oral pain meds, have IV discontinued...and time to go home...man, they got it done. It was great. My overall comment about Hurley Medical Center is that if I have to go to a hospital again, I would ask to go to Hurley...and I live by and have worked at the University of Michigan Hospital.

When I was admitted for my surgery on April 14, 2004, I was still very scared. I knew that I had to have the surgery and I had a lot of confidence in my surgeon, Dr. Obeid. From the beginning until I was released I felt that I was treated very well and I was confident that I was going to do alright. The only problem, minor, that I had was with being awakened about every two hours during the night. I realize it was necessary, however, I was unable to get a good nights sleep. Dr. Obeid was very considerate and I felt very confident with him as my surgeon. Also, it helped to know that he is the Chief of Trauma and Surgery at Hurley. I am very glad that I decided to have my surgery done at Hurley. I can't thank them enough for what they did for me. I never realized that I could feel as good as I do now. Once again a great big thanks to all the staff at Hurley!!!!

6/29/05 I went for pre-op testing today. The staff was better than expected. They were all knowledgeable about the procedure and very helpful.

Dr. Farhan was awesome. He explained in detail everything that COULD happen with the surgery. He made sure I understood ALL the risks and benefits before making the decision to go thru with the surgery. The staff was great. Especially Devora, Julie, and Ida. Ida has since moved on to other things, but both Julie and Devora are still there. I will be honest, I was a little frustrated with him at my 3 month check-up because he said I needed to lose more weight at a faster rate. Well, by my 6 month check-up, I had lost a total of 107 pounds and he said I was doing well. I'm sorry if anyone reading this feels it is suspect, but I truly had a great surgeon and I would highly recommend Dr. Farhan.

I cannot say enough positive things about the care I received at Hurley Hospital. While taking care of my physical needs, the staff was also teaching me what I needed to do when I went home. I experienced an unusual event in the death of my nephew while I was hospitalized. I was given emotional support way beyond what I would have expected. They were wonderful.

I thought Hurley was a good hospital for bariatric surgeries, but some of the nursing staff could be more attentive. It was also very noisy. I would recommend this hospital for bariatric surgery.

I experienced a great deal of nausea and vomiting on day 4, that kept me for one extra day. They had difficulty getting medication from the pharmacy, so instead of IV meds, I had to receive several shots. Upset me a little.
