The first time I saw Dr. McKenna was at his presentation for gastric bypass. I saw a compassionate man with a sensual new orleans accent. A man who told it how it was but also said nobody here is a saint. When you join us and decide to take the journey you're part of my family. From that point on I knew I found the surgeon who would help me.rnrnSherri, Dr. McKenna's assitant and nurse is an angel. She helps you with everything starting from the insurance down to helping you with getting the medifast before the surgery. She has become a friend and celebrates the weight loss as much as I do.rnrnThe emphasis on aftercare is a must. Once a month support group and now he's even enlisted a nutritionist in his office so everything is very convienent. I hope you like hugs because Dr McKenna will hug you each time he sees you. He will scold you when you're bad but also as a loving PaPa he'll hug you and say we can do better.rnrnI had my gastric bypass on July 15th, 2008 my pre-surgical exam with Dr McKenna was July 9th. Again he went over the surgery totally explaining every aspect and making sure I understood all the risks and also all the benefits. rnrnWhen I finally came out of recovery Dr McKenna came to my bedside and said to me Happy Birthday you have a new birth date and a new life. With that he gave me a hug and said now the fun part begins.rnrnToday is August 15th and a month out of surgery I've lost 38 pounds and total weight from time I decided to change my life around is 120 pounds. I can't say enough about Dr. McKenna or his staff to sing their praises. Thank god I found him and I told him today your my savior and Sherri is my angel. rnrnHow can you rate a Doctor who is so compassionate about his patients without saying He's the Best... I still have a long journey ahead of me but I know all the way down this road Dr. McKenna will be there to help me make it there.

The hospital is very nice. I like the fact that it is called Holy Cross!!!

My first impression of him is that he looked really young. But he seemed confident he what does. That was good. I have yet to visit his office, I think that will give me a better overview of his expertise.

Dr. McKenna was great from the day I meant him, a very caring and compassionate person. Overtime I realized that his first impression is his overall character, to date he continues to impress me with his compassion displayed to all of his patients at the group meetings. rnDr. McKenna's assistant Sheri is exceptional, she too is very comopassionate, supportive, and helpful. Dr. Mckenna went over the benefits and the risk of the surgery. He emphasized that the surgery is just a tool, and made it clear that the patient is still required to do their part to make the WLS a success. I give Dr. McKenna a 10+ he is fantastic. rn

Everything was fine except the wait for patient transport-I finally just walked down to meet my ride myself which I should not have had to do since I am not to lift more than 10 lbs. and my bag weighed more than that.

It was a great experience. The staff was very knowledgable about the bariatric patient and the have 24 hour visitation. They were very accommodating.

My hospital experience was outstanding. Jeanne Ferber, the wls advocate, was excellent at keeping my family and I informed. She made a point of checking in with me daily and made sure I had her direct phone number in case I had any surgery-specific questions. I had a private room (again THANK YOU, Jeanne!) that was comfortable and quiet. The nursing staff was caring and compassionate. I barely waited any time at all between pushing the call button and having a nurse at my bedside. They were even wonderful about applauding my efforts at tough stuff like getting out of bed and walking loops around the floor!

I really like the fact that there are no regulated "visitor's hours". It allowed my family to come and go as they could and had I wanted it, someone could have stayed with me the entire time.

Registering for my surgery and my pre- and post-op experiences were efficient and professionally handled. And the anesthesiologist did an AMAZING job. I have never come out of surgery feeling as good as I did this time.

One final comment, both my mom and my DH were very complimentary about the food in the café. My food was pretty bland (DUH! How exciting can clear broth and sugar free jello be???) but they were actually excited about eating at Holy Cross.

Dr. Cantor is an extremely thorough surgeon. To say he has a type A personality is sort of an understatement. rnrnHe is a stickler for rules and his protocol is pretty stringent... more stringent than most. But with that said, he is very successful in what he does. Let's face it, this isn't something to fool around with and Dr. Cantor's care and attentiveness is exactly what I wanted when trusting my life to a surgeon. Case in point: one of the hospital nurses told me that she was online entering some info into my chart at about 3 AM after my surgery and Dr. C logged on to check on me!rnrnHe is very meticulous when going over the risks and procedures associated with the surgery... to the point that I could probably repeat them word-for-word by the time I got to pre-op. rnrnDr. C is very friendly and has a good bedside manner... and he always treats me with respect and dignity. But he doesn't take excuses and he pushes his patients to work hard with the tool he gives you. (You'd better not be in bed when he comes around to do his hospital rounds!) But even as strict as he is with the rules, he is also very kind and realistic. He doesn't expect more than his patients can do and applauds good efforts. He genuinely cares for his patients.rnrnI am very, very happy with my choice and I'm delighted to say my surgery and recovery were about as complication-free as possible. I was even in FAR less pain that I expected. I had Lap RNY and my scars are teeny. I can't possibly thank him enough... I know in my heart, he saved my life.rnrnIf you want specific details about anything I've said... please don't hesitate to contact me! And if you're a patient of Dr. Cantor's... tell him I say HI!rn
