Henry Ford Hospital (COE) Hospital
My first impression of Dr. Genaw was that he is a no nonsense person. I liked him immediately. I was impressed that he did not rush the visit, he was willing to answer my three pages of questions and he even has a dry sense of humor. His staff are awesome, very kind and friendly. If you are not serious about losing weight, don't waste their time, because they are serious about what they can do for you.
Aftercare is very important and you should attend all appointments, they are structured, and it is nice when they can see the changes taking place. Dr. Genaw addressed all the risks of surgery and they do not feel bad if you have second thoughts and back out, they make that very clear. You must go into this venture 100%. I found Dr. Genaw to be completely competent, he ended up doing my surgery open instead
of lap because he tried lap and did not like how things were coming out. My incision is beautiful, no external stitches or staples, and really nice incision. He came to my room the day of my discharge, pulled up a chair, had we had a heart to heart talk, no rushing, and did not think any of my questions were stupid. He even was encouraging when I was putting myself down about the way I looked that day.(bloated, tired, my hair a mess)
On a scale of 1 - 10, I would give him a 10 ! I have nothing negative to say about him or Henry Ford Hospital, I had a great experience. This was my experience and in no way guarantees that you will have the same experience.
Dr Genaw is a great guy. A "9". You always have to leave a little bit of a margin for any kind of error or dislikes. No one is perfect. He makes sure you understand that this is for life. Once your committed to the surgery and willing to change your life; he will go ahead and book you for surgery. After surgery, your to return to see him as well as other supporting staff for follow-up care. Wanda and the staff are great as well. Any questions you have, they will find out the answer if they don't know. Dr Genaw can joke like the best of them but when it comes to surgery, he takes his job to the max. He gives you a tool, and it is up to you to use it after he gives it to you. There are hard times from the time you have your surgery to understanding how to use it. So, really research it and when your sure, really sure, go for it. It is a real change of life. Follow your new diet to a tea. There are real reasons that they say eat this way and this way only. Don't think that this surgery is an easy way to loose weight and look great thin. Overall, there is a lot of work for each person who goes though this surgery. Once you understand how it works, and work with it, your on the right side to a new life. If your going for it, enjoy your new life.
Henry Ford Hospital has a unit dedicated to bariatric surgery. It consists of 8 private rooms. The floors are all hardwood and it is very quiet and relaxing. They make you feel very special. The nurses are outstanding and very quick to respond to your needs. I especially liked the fact that the unit was only bariatric.
My husband and I have met with Dr. Carlin. We like him. He is very frank and honest. He gave us very good information. Dr. Carlin answered some of my questions before I could asked them. I like the fact that my surgeon has very good surgical record. That has eased some of my anxieties.
