Well I finally met Dr. Carlin on the 24th and he was AMAZING.. the nicest man this side of heaven... He's real kind and he made me feel even more at eaze about this whole surgery thing.. I feel soo pumped and I'm ready for this new change. LET'S DO DIS!!!

Dr. Carlin is very thurough, and very personable. I have not yet had my surgery but am not concerned in the least about his abilities. The staff at his office has been wonderful. Very professional, very prompt. After care is a very important part of bariatric surgery. I have heard it takes approximately 3 weeks to instill a permenant change in oneself and Dr. Carlin and his staff are there every step of the way. Henry Ford has a very successful program in place that I am excited about participating in. The last step before signing consent for the procedure is a discussion of the risks of surgery both during surgery and after followed by a test. Really....a test. But don't worry the test itself is almost insulting. Just one more confirmation that you have given the procedure enough consideration.

Very pleasant man, thorough but relaxed.rnExplained everything well and answered all my questions. Positive and encouraging.rnCracked a few jokes!! I think i am in good hands. very strong handshake...i take this as a good sign for a surgeon.

Both my husband and I were totally at ease with Dr Carlin. I liked his upbeat attitude, first words were....\"so are you excited\".....and of course my answer was YES!!! Everyone we have dealt with so far in the HFHS has been positive. I will update, as time goes on, about the rest of my experience.

I like Dr. Genaw. He is very strict. He knows that this surgery can only be successful if the patient uses the tool properly. He has alot of good advice on eating out and exercising. He is very honest and does seem to understand obese people. He also keeps busy with other surgeries other than bariatric. Although bariatric is his primary it seems. He also states that he does all surgeries laproscopic unless impossible. And no staples he handsews I think he said. Sounds very complicated but I think that just makes him an even better surgeon. He takes the extra steps to get the best outcome for his patients. Gotta respect that.

My first impression of Dr. Genaw was that he was very direct and maybe even a bit unfeeling. I also thought he was a bit harsh with his comments. Nothing that obese people haven't been through before. My impression of him changed when I thought about his remarks and realized that he wasn't being mean but rather truthful. He had to tell me the truth. rnrnDr. Genaw's office staff or his program coordinator is the best to be had. Wanda is an amazing woman. She is caring and dedicated to helping as many people as she can. She is the one who keeps the whole process moving smoothly. rnrnI would say the thing I liked the least about Dr. Genaw is his directness and the thing I liked the most about him is his directness. He says the things you need to hear not always the things you want to hear. rnrnAftercare, my goodness we get a binder called our \"blue bari binder\" that we must carry with us to every appointment. It contains everything we need to know from the first appointment and for the rest of our lives. The aftercare is the most important part of the program. It is stressed from day one and we are responsible to know everything that is expected of us. rnrnI would rate the entire program because it all goes hand in hand. The dietician the exercise specialist, the program coordinator, the clearance physician, and the surgeons Dr. Genaw and Dr. Carlin they all get a top notch rating in my book. Without any one of these people the program would not be as good. rnrnI have to say Dr. Genaw is a knowledgeable and skillful surgeon. He is kind and caring and takes more time with a person than any doctor I have ever been to. His bedside manner is wonderful and he spent several hours talking with my husband and I while I was in the hospital. He never makes you feel rushed or that he doesn't have time for you. He takes the time. He answers all questions and then has time for teasing and joking with you as well. He makes you feel like a valuable person. rnrn

rn

Dr. Genaw is very nice, but doesn't sugar coat anything - he tells you how it is.

I met Dr. Carlin for the first time on 9/13/06. He appeared very knowledgeable and personable. He's requiring for me to lose 40 pounds prior to surgery, so we'll see how it goes...
