Good Samaritan Hospital

I have no complaints. I especially liked the fact that mother, sister, and angel all were allowed to stay with me up until the moment I was wheeled down the hall to the operating room. It made me feel much, much better. I also appreciate the fact that I was treated and spoken to like a human being, not a patient.

For the most part it was very, very good. Large size everything. But they were slow in getting me off morphine and onto percoset (which both surgeon and I wanted). And I had to walk to my car after surgery. That was difficult. When my angel called to complain to the charge nurse, she said I should have insisted on a wheelchair. Even though I was anemic and on pain meds and only 2 days out from surgery.

Overall, Good Samaritan seems like a top notch hospital with a few bad apples. I am someone who should not be given Morphine as I am unable to think straight while on it. And being so doped up, I was left in bed overly long the second day. I'd already been given 4 pints of blood for a bleeder they couldn't find and was very ill during this time. But I was left in bed for too long at a time and developed pneumonia in my left lung. My dependence on Oxygen and the fluids in my lung nearly cost me my life. I took myself off Morphine, waited for the effects to wane, and then took charge of my own recovery, which is not an easy task when you're so ill. I think there needs to be a staff meeting stressing the importance of mobility and breathing exercises.
