My overall stay at the hospital was very nice, I had issues with pain on the first day because the morphine was making me very nauseous and the nurse made a few comments about how the only reason it shouldnt work is if I am a heavy pain pill user.I was a little offended and they gave my something else to deal with the pain that did not make me sick. The other nurses were very understanding and did their best to make me feel comfortable

This was my first stay at Good Samaritan Hospital. The nurses and staff were all professional and very helpful. My room was right in front of the staff bathroom and I kept hearing the toilet flushing all night long and the nurses talking out loud, but they were courteous and closed the door to my room and I was able to get my rest. And each time I did need assistance, they were always there with a smile on their face. All very caring individuals.

Overall I would rate Good Sam as a definite Plus for my VSG surgery. Nursing was great and did follow up and all were both professional and had excellent bedside manners. The only negative might be the non coordination of labs, vitals , and BG readings as they were awakening me every hour during the night. I worked in hospitals when I was younger so believe me I can evaluate as both a professional and as a patient. My only real problem was with the accounting department. My surgery was ok'd a month before I came in but they called me the day before. As I needed to travel I was already in San Jose when they called to tell me if I paid up front they would give me a discount. There was no way I could do anything with such short notice since I was not at home. On top of all that the last thing I wanted to worry about was the money less then 24 hours before surgery. It would have been nice to know the amounts ahead of time as well. It was near my educated guess but firm numbers would have been best.

This is the first time I have had a hospital stay at Good Samaritan. The staff was wonderful. All the nurses, aides and hospital staff were awesome. Everyone was extremely helful and accomodating.

It was a little noisy at the hospital, but I had a private room, so once I closed the door the noise level went down dramatically. Everyone in the hospital answered my calls and questions quickly and efficiently.

I would definitely recommend this hospital.

I had my surgery (VSG) two weeks ago and I have just a few things to say about Good Samaritan Hospital. First, while I was pleased with the hospital itself I feel that the nursing staff is in need of some improvements. I was there for 2 nights and in that time, there were a few nurses who took care of me and I was not pleased with most of them. The first nurse refused to learn or ask me my name. Instead, she would come into the room and grab my wrist to see my name on my wristband and she was very impersonal. Another nurse, whose name I cannot remember, took her time doing EVERYTHING. Regardless of the request, whether it was for pain meds or assistance in getting up to go to the bathroom or for a walk, I had to wait at least 10-15 minutes for her to acknowledge me and then she would tell me she'd be right back and she would take another 10-15 minutes to come back. The other thing is, I agreed to be a part of research for my procedure and I had three students, in addition to the nurses, coming into my room periodically to check my vitals and take notes I guess and not one of them had any idea what they were doing. One of them even asked me when I was having surgery even though she was visiting me on the recovery floor!! Anyway, those things I listed did not make me happy but other than that, the hospital wasn't too bad.

I had a wonderful VSG in April 2011 and overnight stay at Good Sam. All went extremely well. I was treated like a princess and even got a private room. The nursing staff was responsive and helpful. I experienced no discomfort or pain. The check in process was impressive. I have had 10 unrelated surgeries and this is the first time I felt that I was being treated with careful care and attention. I loved the warm air gown they put on me at check in. Everything seemed state of the art and very personal. If I ever have another surgery, I want to have it here. Five stars.

I was here for my WLS and spent 2 nights. I felt that this hospital was top of the line. All the staff in 'pre-op' was friendly, knowledgeable and very careful about my privacy, making sure my butt wasn't hanging out, etc. I got there early, and I actually got into surgery early. I woke up and didn't even remember getting put under, they were that good. I was in quite a bit of pain, as is to be expected, but not for long. The nurse took care of that immediately. I was was very impressed with the nursing staff, everyone I came in contact with seemed pleasant, spoke english, always asked if there was anything I needed after they did what they came to do. I have to say there was one nurse, whom I can't even remember her name that came in pointing fingers and acting like she had some where more important to be. She was always took twice as long to answer a call, or respond to the alarm that my IV was running out. She was just NOT nice. And I have to mention Stephanie who was the best! She was on the night shift except she beamed like the sun. She was fun and friendly and would do everything she could to help you out, make you comfortable, or even laugh at your lousy attempts at making a joke. She was there my first night and I did not sleep at all, just walked and wandered the halls and at some point she had come by for something and I just burst out crying. Bizarre. I am not a cryer, so, as much as I was crying and telling her just ignore me, I don't know what the heck the problem is...she wouldn't leave me there balling. She was very caring and considerate and did not leave me crying like a baby in the middle of the night. Thanks Stephanie, you're an angel.

The frustrating part was when anyone walked into my room the door was left wide open. I had to constantly ask for it to be closed. The curtain did not give privacy to patient in room ME.

in general the nursing staff is a hodge podge and not up to date when dealing with this surgery, short staffed and one did not speak enough English to communicate properly, However, the hospital overall is above par, and everyone is supportive once you get there. The billing people are somewhat difficult, but that is true any where. There is not enough parking, so plan a walk once in awhile.
The Bariatric coordinators, and the group facilitators, are really good, and there is alot of support from those groups. This surgery is a committment, and Good Sam makes sure that there is a net there when you need it. As far as privacy, well, when you are in the hospital, you are not resting, and there are reasons for that. Sleep when you get home, cause you cant when you are there.
I still would suggest this facility to anyone having any suregery, they are a step above.
