5 days until my surgery!! Dr. Smith's office is very helpful and knowledgeable in everything I have needed help with. He is a MIT grad and super smart, so he is a little dry. Nice man, but don't go in expecting someone to hold your hand. He has great office staff for the emotional stuff. Dr. Smith is a surgeon and does his job well.

Dr. Smith has been a wonderful Doctor and surgeon. My general impression is that he is shy and reserved, but a very caring and most importantly a very skilled surgeon. His practice reflects his style.... very low key and friendly. I picked him to be my surgeon because I could not find one negative comment about him anywhere! I have to agree - there is absolutely nothing negative that I could say about him or his practice.... everyone involved was/is terrific. I spent two years contemplating and researching this surgery and I really feel I picked the best Doctor that I could have picked in terms of his skill, his practice and his overall program.

I feel so very lucky to have had the opportunity to have my DS surgery with Dr. Smith. He truly is one of the best in the world. My first impression was a sigh of relief. My husband was very uncomfortable with the whole idea of surgery. Although he trusted that I had done my research, he still had serious doubts about the process. After our first appointment with Dr. Smith, my husband's fears were eased and he was just as enthusiastic as I was. Dr. Smith just inspires confidence.

He is extremely thorough and meticulous, and his surgical team works like a well-oiled machine. During our stay in the Atlanta area, each time we mentioned his name to anyone in the health care field, we heard some version of "Dr. Smith??!! Oh, he is wonderful. You are in great hands. His patients always do well."

During my appointments, he took plenty of time to explain everything in great detail, and was very patient in answering all of my questions and encouraging me to ask more. I never felt rushed, or patronized.

His staff was wonderful to work with. They were very patient and encouraging with me as I fought for insurance coverage for over a year. Their recommendation of an insurance specialist is the key that unlocked the whole insurance issue for me and got me covered for DS!

The thing I like least about Dr. Smith? That his practice is 5 hours away and not next door to me as I would like. But I know that he is just a phone call or email away.

Dr. Smith has stringent requirements regarding pre-surgery testing, so pre-ops should be prepared for a fairly long and involved process of testing. All of it has a purpose, and it's all to safeguard your health.

Dr. Smith is very diligent about aftercare. He has a structured program with plenty of support available to post-ops.

His surgical competence is beyond reproach, and his bedside manner is calm and reassuring. He isn't likely to crack jokes or talk about the latest episode of your favorite TV show, but that's hardly the quality I'm looking for in a surgeon.

I would recommend Dr. Smith to anyone interested in bariatric surgery of any kind.

I would not hesitate to give this hospital all excellents based upon my experience from the time I was wheeled into the OR until the day after surgery. Before and after, I dealt with an insensitive staffer (announcing my status as a bariatric patient in front of an entire waiting room, without every asking my status), a four hour surgery delay; the Day 2 nursing staff was not nearly as responsive and accommodating as the staff I had on Day 1; and the dietary department did not respond to three separate requests for a beverage OTHER than lemonade. Aside from those minor difficulties and inconveniences, the facility is very clean and comfortable, and I would not hesitate to return for another procedure.

I would highly recommend Dr. Dennis Smith. He is caring, conscientious, and responsive to his patients. As a patient, you really feels he cares about your success. He is very meticulous in his pre-operative clearances and strongly recommends and encourages structured aftercare. He is very detailed in his explanation of the procedure and explaining risks. I would definitely rate him a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale.

He was the BEST! Aftercare for DS is crucial for life. There wasn't anything that I didn't like about Dr. Smith. He was extremely thorough, pre-surgery, during surgery, and post-surgery. His surgical competence as well as his bedside manner were truly awesome. His office staff were the friendliest folks I've ever met, but their follow-through was lacking and unorganized. That would be my only complaint in totality with regard to Dr. Smith and/or staff.rnrnI wish we could have brought him to Ohio when we moved.rnrnMy husband is in desperate need of the same surgery and we would like to find a doctor as great as Dr. Smith in the Columbus, Ohio area that we can count on for him.rnrnThank you, Dr. Smith. You are AWESOME!

Dr. Smith has a good reputation, which is why I went to him in the first place. He knows what he is doing and appeared to have done a thorough job of reading my chart. He does stress non-smoking and makes it a deal breaker. He came by to visit me at least once a day while in the hospital was was in touch with my condition. He was actually pretty cool, in a non-plussed kind of way. He emphasizes followup care. He discussed everything in advance, though I had already done thorough research, and gave me the opportunity to ask questions. The risks were disclosed.
