Durham Regional wasn't too bad. My only serious complaint was that I was told over and over how important it is to get up and walk as much as possible after surgery to help with the discomfort from the gas pumped into my abdomen during the surgery. On A FEW occasions, my nurses were too busy with other patients to escort me on the walks and as a result I didn't get to walk as much as I could.

My first impression of Dr. Portenier was that he had trained well and understood the anxiety that someone is feeling going into the process. He took the time to answer all of my questions without being overly technical and never was condescending. rnrnAs part of the Duke Weight Loss Surgery Center he is supported by an outstanding staff whose commitment to the advancement of this field is obvious through their dilligence in ensuring that the needs of their patients are met before, during, and after surgery. Patients work with nurses, a dietitian, and psychiatrists that are all at the top of their class in training and ability. The same goes for the surgeons at Duke. rnrnHe remains just as committed to ensuring my needs are met after the surgery as he was before. A prime example of this dedication was when I urgently needed advice from someone at Duke on a Sunday afternoon. I called the hospital hoping to speak to the bariatric doctor on call. He actually took the call on his cell phone while out shopping with his family! I have never had a doctor that would go that far for a patient. rnrnOverall, I am extremely pleased with my experience with Dr. Portenier. He is well educated and trained like all of the doctors that work at Duke. He performed my surgery and aftercare flawlessly, and just as importantly he knows how to relate to me. He is a relatively young surgeon who in my opinion has a very bright future in his field.

Dr. Portenier was terrific. My husband and I were both instantly comfortable with him. He was very \"down to earth\" and explained everything very clearly in detail. He's very caring and dedicated to his patients. I was walking the hallway in the hospital the same evening as my surgery and he addressed me in the hall and said to \"keep up the good work\". I would highly recommend him to others.

Dr. Sudan knows what he is doing - I was impressed by what I had heard through others and when I met him. I did have several issues with someone in the billing area named Lori that I was not pleased with at all - but - I do not let that go towards my feelings of him and his staff I deal directly with. Aftercare is very important - follow up - follow up. I would give Dr. Sudan the highest rating I possibly could. His surgical competence is top notch - as well as his bedside manner. He makes sure you are doing well - and will address all issues you have. I can't say enough about him and I am so glad I had this done. My life has changed so much all ready.

I first saw Dr Sudan 7 yrs ago when I first tried to get my surgery. However at that time our ins had an exclusion on any kind of WLS. After several appeals, I couldn't take the rollercoaster ride any long and gave up.rnrnStarted the process all over again when we had a different ins carrier. That was approx 2+ yrs ago. Was very impressed with Dr Sudan previously when I had seen him and gone to his seminar. So naturally went back to him this time.rnrnHe has been great. Is the head of Creighton Hosp's bariatric program. One of the best bariatric surgeons in the country. Totally at ease with him and feel sure that I'm in the best hands I could be.rnrnHis staff are super, very professional, caring and willing to help you in any way they can thru this whole process.rnrnShelly, the Dietitian. Instantly liked her, funny and very informative. Was evident that she genuinly cares about you and what all you will be going thru in this process.rnrnAll aspects of before, during and aftercare were throughly covered. As well as risks involved. rnrnOverall opinion, I believe he is very professional and knowlegeable as a bariatric surgeon. Have no reservations of putting my life in his hands for my surgery and followup care.rnrnWill further update my impressions as my journey continues. As well as anything that I thought could have been better, or improved upon.rnrnFeb 18thrnHad my surgery on Feb 14th 07. Impressions on Dr Sudan.....I have to say I'm Very impressed with him. He's very through, and compassionate. So far don't see that changing. He gives off confidence, but not arrogance. I like that, and being a nurse I'v seen my share of arrogant Doctors. Very happy to be in his hands for this journy. Dr Silver, she was so nice as well. rn

Dr. Portenier was GREAT....he answered all of our questions , took the extra time to listen to me and Brandon on all of our concerns. . The office staff at duke is the BEST they got me approved very quickly .All the office staf really stress on your care they want to make sure that you are in the best of health...and they do offer follow ups in regard to your care for your new life. We talked about my risks of surgery....and I feel that I will be in the best of hands

Dr. Sudan was great. Communication with his office a bit slow sometimes but a lot better than other doctor's offices. I would rate him a 9.5 out of 10. Dr. Sundan is the head doctor of the program. He is the one that actually performed my surgery. He has many doctors working under him. I had a lot of contact with them. They were all great as well.

I haven't met with him as of yet. My one on one is 01-31, but I have heard that he is an excellent surgeon and has wonderful bedside manner. I will update once I meet with him.

My nurse during the day was great but the night nurses were terrible. They took horrible care of me and did not care about my needs and well being.
