Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery Hospital
Quiet, contempletive. I believe he is comprehensive and a stickler for helping people. The staff is ok, I am not overly impressed with Charity, I do however like the dietician. Aftercare is a primary soapbox for him and his staff, they let you know that they plan for you to plan to be there every year. Risks were plain and simple, I am nervous, but I believe that the only true way for me to live a long, fruitful life is to make this change.
Dr Sudan is great. He and his staff are very knowledgeable on all three procedures he does. He answered all questions quickly and with a lot of information. He does a manditory pre-op seminar, where he explains all three procedures and what to expect after each one. He has been wonderful during my post-op care as well, and even met me in the ER when I was having pains (turned out to be a reaction to a medication).
He follows you for the rest of your life after surgery with yearly appointments and if you move, they help you find another surgeon to help maintain the appointments. He assessed the risks of surgery three ways. He told us about it in the manditory seminar, at my first appointment, and it is also in the pre-op packet I got.
-Dr. Sudan was and is wonderful! Very thorough and attentive.
-Some people say he is quiet at first but the more you get to know him, the friendlier he is. And he always remembers a patient and their family.
-His staff is also wonderful. Any questions I had I just sent an email or made a quick call and they always answered very promptly.
-Dr. Sudan uses the Divincci Robotics for laparoscopic surgery. This is very accurate and reduces healing time and pain factor.
-He is emphatic on follow up. Checkups at 2wks, 4wks, 3mo, 6mo, 9mo, 1yr, and yearly after that (this may vary depending on procedure you have). There is also monthly information sessions and support group meetings for both RNY and DS patients.
-Dr. Sudan is very upfront about risks and benefits of surgery. The information sessions on the first Wed of every month are very, very thorough. He gives you the opportunity to do research, may make a suggestion, but leaves choosing the surgery type up to you (or perhaps your insurance if that is the case) and what will best fit your lifestyle.
-I would recommend Dr. Sudan to anyone. Please do all the research possible though in choosing a surgeon for yourself!
-I believe most important is surgical competence and luckily enough, I had a surgeon who also demonstrates care and compassion for his patients.
I spent most of my stay in the ICU dept due to having a CPAP machine. I had the most excellent care in the ICU. I will say the the regular rooms - private - are very small but big enough to have a chair my husband could sleep in plus there were a couple of other chairs for visitors.
All in all I thought DRH took very good care of me and my needs.
I really enjoyed Dr. Sudan from the first time I met him. He is very down to earth and does not make you feel uncomfortable about anything....including your size. The staff at his office are incredible. Everyone is very supportive and helpful. Dr. Sudan and his staff all seem to genuinely care about you and your progress. They have a structured aftercare program as well as monthly support group meetings. Aftercare is extremely important....you've got to follow the guidelines or surgery just won't help you. I would give this office an A+++++ rating on everything.
I AM 53YRS OLD, AND THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST DOCTOR I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. EVERTHING HE DID TO PLAN AND EXECUTE MY SURGERY WAS PROFESSIONAL, COMPETANT AND COMPLETE. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT DR SUDAN, BUT IN MY HEART, I WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL GOD PLACED SUCH A PERSON ON THIS EARTH TO HELP SOMEONE LIKE ME.
