My first meeting with Dr. McDaniel was with a very calm and competent surgeon. There was no lecture, we just exchanged questions and facts. There was no sales pitch, but he did say be preferred laproscopic over open for the obvious reasons.
The office staff was great. There was very little waiting time, everyone was knowledgeable, courteous, and honest, and most of all patient. My only drawback is that the hospital and Aetna don't agree, so I've decided to go laproscopic and self pay.
Dr. McDaniel has a terrific aftercare program, which is one of the reasons I chose him. I've attended several of the monthly group sessions and am very impressed with their caring and advise. I feel that I can contact any one of them at any time for help or advice.
I wish Victoria wasn't 2 hours away. I would really enjoy attending the group sessions with Paul Primm, but because of the distance my job doesn't allow me to do so.
I was treated as a partner in this venture, not someone a level below the experts.

My first impression of him was that he was young and handsome :) After I got over that, I realized that he was very intelligent and was knowledgable about my condition, and the procedure (that's a good thing) He was friendly and eager to answer all of my questions and wanted to be sure that all of my questions were answered and that I understood the seriousness and the committment needed for this procedure. I had already done a lot of research on the procedure and had done some self educating about the procedure, the aftercare, etc. I did not have many questions but they asked anyways as they wanted to make sure I was well informed. This is not a procedure to commit to lightly.

The staff at his office are awesome, from Veronica to Ann to Ron. I got there an hour early for my initial consult and was going to wait in the waiting room, they saw me right away. I am sure that this was probably good luck on my part. No WAIT, now that's a change. They are really friendly and fast to answer any questions or find the answer for you. I was also lucky that my insurance approved my surgery very quickly without a lot of follow up from the doctor's office. I am truly impressed with this whole program. Although I am still waiting to have surgery, the program appears to be very in depth, not only from the initial consult but in following you after surgery as well. Overall, so far I would rate Dr. McDaniel and his staff and the program a 10. Now these statements are only my opinion and my experiences, but so far it has been a smooth road. All of this process is very individual and I have read a lot of profiles where people have had a difficult time with different programs, the procedure and with insurance, it just has not been that way for me. I guess this time is making up for the 3 years that I have been trying to get this surgery done. I guess the third time is a charm.

I met Dr McDaniel May 26, 2003 when I went for an intial appointment. I had a hernia repair a week later and due to complaications of that surgery,I decided to put off any other surgery for a year. After being diagnosed with Sleep Apena, I thought it was time to go back for a folloup visit, to my surprise, Dr. Mc Daniel remembered me and my hernia !!!! Even after a year , WOW. He is an intelligent and very caring Dr. He actually listens to you.
Dr Mc Daniel answered all my questions, and his staff there are just as friendly as he is: especially his Assistant RON ! I am counting the days down for my bariatric surgery, and being able to get out of my bed without dragging my feet for the first 15 minutes.
Dr McDaniel offers a free group meeting once a month called "POUCH PALS", I am looking forward to attending those meetings, and talking with others who have had the same surgery.

My first impression was an extremly positive one. He answered all my questions, did not try and rush, and was very thorough in his own questions regarding my history and background. His office staff is the best that I have ever met. They always have time for me, especially regarding insurance. What really allowed me to say yes to the surgery was his emphasis on the wholistic approach before/after the surgery.

The only negative thing is that I have yet to hear about the ultrasound of my gall-bladder. I was thinking it was a good thing, but a friend of mine just said she had to call to find out about hers and her gall-bladder was full of stones. So will be calling his office tomorrow.

Dr. McDaniel and his entire staff have been wonderful through this whole procedure. They are always there to answer any questions and to cheer me on. Dr. McDaniel holds monthly support group meetings which are very informative and encouraging. I could not have asked for better overall care than with Dr. McDaniel and his staff.

Haven't known him long enough to say

His staff is friendly

Aftercare is stressed somewhat but not as much as some programs.

The nursing staff at Citizens Hospital was great. They put bariatric patients in the 6th floor "penthouse," which was built just a few years ago for maternity patients. Because it was never full, they decided to include bariatric patients up there as well. The rooms are large, private, and include a place for your spouse or helper to spend the night with you. The nurses were kind, knowledgeable, and quick to respond. It was very nice.

Dr. McDaniel has a great attitude about his work and patients. He is available 24/7 to help with any problem you may incurr after surgery. He will remind you of this on discharge day. And he means it.

The office staff is very personable and reliable in the way of filling out medical insurance forms and scheduling appointments.

Prior to scheduling surgery, each patient is required to take a nutritional class, have an ultra sound of organs, visit a Psycologist and attend a group therapy sesson.

The after care not only includes Dr's appointments (Vitiman B-12 shots) it also includes group therapy sessions and a user's group meeting (once a month, your choice if you want or need to go).

Overall I think Dr. McDaniels is serious about his work and is dedicated to the cause of obesity.

I had my surgery on August 4th, 2004; Today is day 4 after the operation. I'm still glad I had it but, I strongly suggest that you do the reasearch, talk to others who have had the surgery and find a good doctor. Dr. McDaniel was my choice, and I'm on my way to being (and looking) "Normal" again.
