Citizens Medical Center Hospital
I have high praises for the staff and the facilities. I have never been personally escorted through each pre-op procedure. After checking in, they met me at the elevator and led me to the largest and best appointed hospital room I had ever been in. The facilities are completely overweight sensitive. It was the largest bed I had ever seen in a hospital, big roomy gowns, a sleeper sofa thing with linens, a recliner and a rocker. The floors were an attractive wood looking surface. The staff was responsive and had members that had had wls. For family members and patients there was a small kitchen that had coffee, crushed ice, water, popsicles and such. These small ammenities made us more comfortable.
The only drawback was the flat lot parking. However there is a little shuttle that security runs to bring you from the far reaching areas of the lots.
My first impression was how comfortable Dr. McDaniel's office was for large people. There were oversized chairs. His Physician's Assistant has to be one of the sweetest men you will ever meet. Dr. McDaniel alleviated a lot of my hubby's concerns. He spent so much time with us that I had to cut the appointment short to get to my psych evaluation that the doctor requires. How often do you find a physician that treats you as if you are his only patient that day. rnrnDr. McDaniel struck me as very professional and very concerned about his patients. He projects a reassuring confidence. He was positive and realistic at the same time. I trusted him immediately. Several of his staff came in and introduced themselves and showed me their before pics. They were also his patients.
Nothing but praise for Dr. McDaniel and his staff, both clinic and hospital. Smart, kind and helpful to the last person. My surgery was a breeze, I am having wonderful results, and I feel great. I had confidence in Dr. McDaniel right away, and it was well placed. His staff (especially Ron) made sure I had a thorough understanding of the procedure, risks, and just exactly what to expect afterwards. I can't say enough about this whole group. Aftercare is stressed, and this includes a local clinic and support group here in Corpus Christi. I have met a good number of his patients, and they are all as pleased as I am with the care given by this wonderful man and his amazing staff. Kind, talented, professional and accessible.
I had surgery on September 30, 2002. I had spent over a year researching the surgery and watching some friends of mine after their surgery. They told me about Dr. McDaniel, and he sounded almost too good to be true. I have had multiple surgeries over the years, and my surgeons were competent, but the things I was told about him went beyond normal expectations. When I finally decided to make an appointment, I was nervous as I sat waiting in the room. It wasn't long before there was a knock at the door, and in walked Dr. McDaniel. The first thing he did was look me straight in the eye and smile. When you are morbidly obese, people rarely look you in the eye, and smiles are even more rare. My nervousness vanished, and I found myself talking more openly to him that I had done with anyone else in a very long time. He listened intently to my story, shaking his head with empathy. I am sure he has heard just about every story there is about struggles with weight, but he made me feel like I was his only patient. I did not feel rushed at all. He took me through the program, making sure to discuss the fact that this was a life-long change, and that the surgery was not the TOTAL answer. It would take a big effort on my part for the rest of my life, but, if I was willing, this WOULD work when everything else failed. The great part was, they had put together a complete after-care program, and all I had to do was follow their directions. What a concept! Do what the doctor says and you will succeed. I lost a total of 141 pounds, and have become accustomed (finally) to the physical new me. Of course, this is a disease of the mind as well as the body, and I continue to work through my phsycological food addiction on a daily basis. But my experience with Dr. McDaniel and his wonderful staff is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I am truly thankful for each day. In my opinion, there is no finer surgeon anywhere. He cares for the body AND the mind equally, and his staff is there for me no matter what the need or question. I am not sure which is better, surgical competence or bedside manner, but it doesn't matter in this instance because Dr. McDaniel possesses both qualities. Personal ~ Professional~ Gifted
very nice for bariatric paitients. The rooms had wood floors and were very spacious. I had 4 people visit me with enough seating and room for all of us to walk around. The staff on the floor was strictly for bariatirc paitients and were very highly trained. it was wonderful and they were so nice and funny.
