Christiana Hospital Hospital
I felt like a piece of my roomate's equiptment. My bed was actually diagnal in the room to accomidate herequiptment and visitors. I had to actually move furniture (big wooden chairs that her visitors would leave in the walkway) out of the way to go to the bathroom. My last day there, my drainage site started leaking badly. I told the PCA and I sat there for two hours holding my drainage site soaking wet before the nurse came in to help me. As I was leaving the hospital they had me in a broken wheelchair. When my husband pointed this out to the transport person, she started to kick the wheel repeatedly. Three days after a surgery of this nature, the last thing that you want is someone kicking the chair that you are in.
I would highly recommend the staff on 5D!! They were friendly, helpful and compassionate. I felt that my care was excellent---the staff, right through pre-op to discharge were very compassionate and willing to provide the best care possible. Overall, they were there for me and offered help and encouragement to do the breathing exercises, walk and other things to help feel better. The hospital even has a wonderful volunteer service that delivers encouraging emails from friends and family who can't be there. Talk about service! I would highly recommend Christina Hospital to anyone and I'm glad that my surgeons practice there.
The day shift nurse there when I was was horrible. Very insentive and rude. the 3 to 11 nurse and tech was good. The 11 7 shift was ok, they did there job.
Some one need to re educate the day shift staff on pod D. all I have to add to this review is I hope since I had my suregery 3 yrs ago, that things are better when it comes to patience care, empthy would be nice.
I don't know how much room there is, so here goes...the whole pre-op set up was great. I met with the anes and nurse anes and they were both very pleasant and reassuring. I never even knew I was going under...next thing I know I'm waking up and the whole thing is over with. The nurses in 5D were absolutely incredible. I cannot thank them enough for their attentiveness and their help. They were very encouraging and helpful through my short stay there. I think their smiling faces and their desire to do their job well and make sure that everyone was taken care of made the whole healing process go that much quicker. They really were a pleasant group of ladies. Made it difficult to be uncomfortable at any time. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :-)
I think they were very receptive to my needs considering the type of surgery involved. There were actually a few people that attended to me that had either had the same surgery or were planning to have the same surgery so I guess I was lucky in that aspect. My aunt had surgery on the same date and they were very helpful in scheduling to get us in the same room as well. They could use more beds though as we both had to spend the first 24hrs in the recovery area because there was not enough room on the floor. That actually wasn't that bad though because you get much more attention in the recovery area! : )
