Christiana Hospital Hospital
The only complaint I have is the beds where not at all comfortable for obese people, not enough pain meds (I don't think they realize a 400lb. person needs twice as much than a 200lb. person, and I think I should have stayed 4-5 days verses the 2.5 days I was in there. I spent 3-4 days in bad pain at home and went through 600ml of Tyenol 30 in 5 days because of the pain.
I feel that the nurses are extememly over worked. They have too many patients per nurse. Therefore, you have to continually ask for things, such as unplugging your IV so that you can walk around, etc. I also had an extremely horrible stay due to my room mate. Through no fault of the other patient, they needed to have a room to themselves because of the level of care required.
The nurses in 5D are the best. They were all kind and caring individuals. They gave lots of encouragement and were always available if I needed anything.
The only thing, I didn't like about the hospital were the beds. The hospital bed was very uncomfortable. Maybe it is that way on purpose to encourage one to get up and walk the hallway. Walking is strongly encouraged after gastric bypass surgery.
They have been putting the bariatric patients in one area (5D) and the nurses there were awesome! On the entire floor there was only 1 nurse who didn't belong there and when I've viisted other friends since, she seems to have worked on her attitude. Most of the nurses and assistance were 'johnny on the spot', if I needed them, they were there. Very helpful and accomodating.
