Cabell Huntington Hospital (COE) Hospital
I had been researching bariatric surgery for more than two years when I found Dr. Nease thanks to a relative who worked in the same hospital. I knew I wanted the surgery, but hadn't found the right Dr. yet. I attended his seminar and was impressed with his dedication to improving lives. Dr. Nease is incredible. He chose this specialty because of a family member who suffered from obesity. He and his staff treat each patients as a member of a very special family. They prepared me completely for every step of what was going to happen before, during and after surgery. The pros and cons of the surgery were discussed at length. The day of of my surgery, I was very relaxed because I knew that I had found the right Dr. however, my daughter (10 yrs. old) was getting a little scared and Dr. Nease took the time before surgery to talk with my husband and children to reassure them and again right after surgery. He also came to see me twice a day while I was in the hospital. I couldn't ask for a more ethical and compassionate surgeon. I feel that I chose the perfect Dr. and I feel very confident that I received the best care possible. There aren't enough words to express my gratitude to Dr. Nease and his staff for giving me my life back.
When I first looked into surgery for my weight problem, I was a little scared about the whole process. After meeting with Dr. Nease my fears were relieved. His personal esperiences with obesity in his family and his confidence in his surgical skills put my mind at ease. Unlike many doctors he did not look down on me because of my weight. He is one of the finest doctors, as well as a human being that I have ever met. I am proud to call him a friend. To anyone considering this surgery I would say it will change your life. Thank you Dr. Nease for saving mine.
I went to hear Dr. Nease speak. From that time on I was determined to have him do my surgery. Dr. Nease and his staff were the nicest, most caring people I ever met. No question went unanswered. I thank God for leading me to Dr. Nease and his staff. They gave me back to my children and grandchildren. Most of all Dr. Nease made it possible for me to live and find the real me. I recommend Dr. Nease to anyone thinking about surgery. Go to a seminar of his and see for yourself. I would do it again in a heartbeat. After 46 years I am the happiest I have been in many, many years and feeling like a teenager. Thank you Dr. Nease! Words cannot express what you've done for me!!
I hate to repeat what others have said about Dr. Nease, but it all true!!! Finally in the US there is a physician/surgeon who listens and cares about the person under the fat.
I researched Gastric Bypass Surgery for 2yrs and only wanted the top surgeon rearranging what God gave me. I was all determined to have the surgery in San Diego, CA when I attended a meeting featuring Carnie Wilson and learned about Garden Grove Hospital and Dr. Nease. After hearing about Dr. Nease’s educational background and surgical training I thought ya, I have found my surgeon. It was not solidified in my mind until Dr. Nease brought me to tears when he spoke of his father's struggle with obesity and the co-morbidities that claimed his father's life.
Dr. Nease is the only surgeon I know that truly understands what an obese person is feeling. His staff is just as caring and compassionate about helping everyone understand the Pros and Cons to Bariatric Surgery. Kim, Cynthia, Marla, Sheila and Betty are the best medical staff any doctor could want. You can call with questions and someone will always help with answers. Never have I felt like a number. I'm always treated as a friend.
The aftercare is just as important to Dr. Nease and his staff as before you go into surgery. The support group at Dr. Nease's office has become my second home. I have a new pouch, a new outlook, and new friends to walk with me towards a happy, health, and now joyous life.
Overall, I have become an advocate for Dr. Nease and love the work his does. If a doctor looks you in the eyes and sees you for you, I think you have found a doctor with a special gift.
Dr Nease is very caring. I wanted to learn about the Duodenal Switch and he is one of only a few to do it laparoscopicly. He was actually the second surgeon I visited. Staff are friendly - alot of the information is "generic" one size fits all. For older patients be sure to ask about age specific expectations. Dr. Neases conveys a real feeling of confidence and there is "overkill" of addressing the catastophic risks of surgery. Talk with other patients who have had the surgery - I found them to be the most informative. I would recommend Dr. Nease as I feel he is very surgical competent.
The miracles of surgery - I can cross my legs (haven't done that in years), fit into airline seats - those fears are gone - also the seat belt fits now! I'm feeling so much younger in terms of walking - "sprint in my step".
I met him at a seminar in Garden Grove. He seemed real down to earth = especially when he talked about his father. He had a patient to visit, but stayed with us to answer all questions at the end of the seminar. I have a very high comfort level with him - can talk about anything with him.Found out about Dr. Nease through Obesityhelp.com and emailed the office to receive information and Cynthia Reynolds called me that very afternoon - great response time and enthusiastic about helping - unlike the other Centers I have called (they still have not called me back - 8months later!). Other Centers seemed more itnerested in following procedures - here I never got an answering machine, phone calls were returned immediately - made me feel very comfortable.
I have already referred my friends to Dr. Nease because surgery can be scheduled in a timely manner and I had such a positive experience.
We have a post-op nutrition class one week after surgery, lots of talk about dumping, what to eat/not eat. Support groups are held every two weeks. All of my questions about the risks of surgery were answered at the seminar, also during my one/one consultation Marla discovered I had sleep apnea (which I didn't know about) so my surgery was scheduled for a few weeks later to ensure the best health.
Overall I wouldn't hesitate recommending Dr. Nease to anyone and am so happy I had the surgery.
At other Centers they do only open and I'm so glad I learned the benefits of having it done laparoscopic. It was a better surgery because my recovery time was less (back to work in 2 weeks) and less pain.
I first heard about Dr. Nease from two good friends who had the surgery done by him and they could not say enough good things about him. I was like who is this wizard? So I called the office and went to the seminar he held in Ontario, Ca and let me say this I was excited about the surgery before I met him but was even more excited after I had heard him speak and met the man. He was congenial, pleasant, up-front and honest. Working in the medical community myself, I was skeptical but it was truly a master. His office staff from day 1 was nothing but helpful and kind. They knew what to say and just when to say it. Marla, Cynthia and Kim all are fantastic. He addressed every question or concern I had with upmost compassion and realism. He didn't laugh at some of even my stupid questions. I couldn't have asked for a more ethical and compassionate surgeon. I just thank Dr. Nease and his staff for helping to get my life back. His overall rating is 5 stars.
I had WLS on Sept.3,2002. I also had a large mass removed from my left side at the same time. To date I have lost 103 pounds. I had nothing but GOOD things to say about my surgeon, Dr. B. Nease. It's just a shame we lost him from this area as he was doing alot of good for a lot of people. I have never had such a caring doctor, and I have had several surgeries before. I have had no problems healing or recovering. This isn't a surgery for everyone or an answer for all obese people, but it certainly changed me for the good and has enhanced my life greatly. I will be forever greatful to Dr. Nease for all he has done for me.
Dr. Nease was the third surgeon I looked at and as soon as I attended his seminar, I was convinced this was the Dr. for me. He makes you feel relaxed, tells you exactly how it is, he's very upfront about the risks. His staff makes you feel like family, learn name first time you meet them. He keeps you very well informed. As time goes on I feel more and more at home each time I come. I look forward to coming into the office.
The hospital staff is amazing! The nurses are fantastic - warm, friendly, not just there to put drugs in you.
The pre and post-op classes keep you in tune with what's going on. Other surgeons I talked with didn't have these classes in place. This is what helps keep you successful.
Dr. Nease's skill and bedside manner are great. Every aspect of this program is great - the right place for me.
I honestly have nothing negative to say - I am very open-mouthed and if there was something bad to say I'd say it.
Dr. Nease has lived with someone who was obese, his father. This gave him the insight into helping other people who are obese. You can't help someone if you haven't experienced it for yourself. He was kind and thoughtful. He never treated me as anything but a patient with problems, not as a FAT person.
His office staff were very nice and helpful. I had problems with my insurance and they worked hard to get an aproval for me.
I was one of the unfortunate ones who had a complication after surgery. One place didn't connect and I was bleeding into my bowel. Dr. Nease was kept informed the whole time and he did everything possible, short of surgery again, to make me feel better. I was so sick, I didn't know about his concern until I was feeling better. The nurses said he called to check on me and on his day off, the day I was dismissed from the hospital, he called to make sure I was O.K.
He is an excellent doctor and I'm glad I had him do my surgery. He has it all!!!
