Barix Clinics - Michigan Hospital
Great staff, except for one nurse. My pain meds had to be switched after I had an allergic reaction to morphine and the new ones / or the pump, simply didn't work, yet no one would even do so much as check the pump, ignoring me completely. But other than that, I couldn't have asked for better treatment. I also escaped without a roommate, which made my stay much better. The rooms are barely big enough for one, so I can't imagine what it must have been like for those with a roommate. Overall, I would highly recommend BTC.
My husband and I are both very impressed with Dr. Poplawski. I've never had surgery before so this is a big step for me. I didn't know what to look for or what to expect in a surgeon. I did meet with another surgeon before Poplaski. I left that consulatation feeling very uncertain about him. I wondered if I would feel that way about all surgeons just because of my own fear. A couple people recommended Poplawki so I decided to meet him to compare my impression of surgeons. Poplawski offered up lots of information... he took his time with us....I sort of thought of him as a marriage couselor. He told my husband how please he was to see my husband being by my side every step of the way. Poplawski said this surgery makes good marriages better.........but it weakens week marriages. He talked to my husband how its a natural tendency for men to start thinking that their wife is cheating once she lost all the weight because she gets so much more attention. But he reassured my husband it a male tendancy that has no truth to it.
I realize a surgeon isn't going to leave anyone with warm fuzzies.......its really not his job. But I did feel that we had a heart to heart talk. I left feeling confident that I could go through with this and that he was the man for the job.
The facility is in near completion of complete renovation. In the very near future they will be offering private rooms. The rooms are doubled up right now ans our very small. The completion of the joining hospital wing will be a major BONUS...and truly the only improvement that I can even see necessary.
He was very straigt forward. He
introduced himself, and told me some about his background and credentials. I can't remember the amount, but he has done quite a few of theses RNY Surgeries. He was very
thourough in his explanation of the surgery,
using a board to illustrate as he talked. At
one point I felt like he was trying to talk
me out of the surgery, he was honestly letting me know what was ahead. He told me this wasn't a magic pill , that there was
a lot of work ahead on my part. When I walked in , I felt the staff at the desk appeared rather indifferent. Sort of matter of fact. All the rest of the professional
staff was very helpful, informative, and welcoming. Melanie Edwartowski is my patient
counselor, she also had surgery from Dr. B.
She showed me her incision, talked about the surgery, and the great staff at Addison. She sure was tiny. She was so happy, she said they saved my life. I am waiting for
approval now. Pray I get it. My hand is in the Lords, and I pray for his direction.
Well, guess what, one day before surgery
they called, and my Doctor had a family emergency, so I got (Doctor Poplawski), he was just great. He came in to talk to me before the surgery to see if I had any questions. Mona his nurse was great too. I asked him to play 5o and 6o's music while I was in surgery, he immediatly went and got a tape. Cool Hey, Hmm, I don't think I heard it though. Good drugs no pain. Praise the Lord for taking us through this.
Only thing I would have like was an after visit from him. BTC does have an internest that checks on you daily. Dr. Jeffers. she is a good Doctor, but a stop in from the surgeon would have been good.
