Barix Clinics - Michigan Hospital
To save time, refer to the comments of
Denise Wright (2-19-02) and Laura (2-05-02)Ditto to their comments. The night nurses were so noisy, it drove me crazy.
On the last night of my stay, it was pin-drop quiet. That was because the spouse of a patient was curled up on a
couch all night in the adjacent waiting room. This made me wonder why they couldn't afford the same courtesy to the patients. It seems like night care and nurses are the same wherever you go, so I can't hold this against them too much, althoughI plan to submit a letter to the BTC re this soon.(I am only 1 week pre-op.) REGARDING ROOM-MATES...
You are so out of it the first two days,
that you will not care who is in the room. Plus, with a room-mate, if one of you needs something, the other can always alert the staff. I was oncerned about having a room-mate when I researched the BTC. I've had 8 other hospital stays and usually they have tons of family members visiting and talking loudly and starring at you. But this experience was different. Most patients had only one or two visitors at a time and the visitors were always quiet. That was not a problem at all. Everyone(patients and their families) had an attitude of "we're all in this together". There was an atmosphere in the place that was silent, but unifying.
I don't know how anyone can go to a regular hospital to have this surgery done. This type of atmosphere would just not exist.
I had my first consultation on June 06, 2002 with Dr. Steven Poplawski. I already knew of his outstanding reputation and creditials. But until he walked through the door and greeted me was when I knew this was the surgeon I wanted to do my proceedure. He was very matter of fact and thourough.
More later
Met with Dr. Poplawski. He seemed very confident in his skills as a surgeon and assured me there wouldn't be any problems. It was kind of humorous how he seemed to have an agenda when talking to me and I kept distracting him by throwing out hundreds of different questions. Now comes the waiting.... ugh!
My First Impression of Dr. Poplawski was that he was professional and knows his stuff. He told me he has done over a 1000 wls surgeries and has never lost a patient. I was hoping he was going to say that!!! He does stress after care very much and he did talk alot about the things to be done before the surgery, Like preop testing to make sure you are in the best shape you can be in before the surgery. He drew pictures of what he does in the surgery and addressed all of the risks. The office staff has been great!!!! I would rate the staff and Dr. Poplawski a 9, I will wait to give them a ten until after my surgery!!!!!!! Well this is only my impression so you will have to see for yourself!!!! Good Luck All!!!
Thanks,
Stacy
My first impression. He seemed ok.
I took my kids with me and he was nice to them even though they were loud and stuff he was patient. That said alot to me.
The first nurse who did my intake stuff. weight and stuff. She was snotty. But the other staff was great and very helpful.
What I liked about him most was that he guess something that i hadn't even mention and that impressed me alot.
That he seemed honest.
I think he covered everthing and was realistic about how he saw it. He wanted to know if i had support and if i didn't he would be a support after surgery, and if he had to be mean he would.LOL

I meet Dr. Poplawski on June 12. My first impression of Dr. Poplawski was, he is a very nice man. He made me feel very comfortable. My Mother and Daughter were there with me, and was allowed to go in with me to see the doctor, that made me more comfortable I was very nervous at first. My husdand was unable to be with me because he had to be home for our son who is attending wrestling camp at this time. Dr.Poplawski's staff are very nice and caring people. He explained every thing in great detail including the risks of the surgery.I would and I will trust my life with this man. He knows what hes doing, and I trust my life and wellbeing with him, he was great. After I spoke with him a very nice lady came into the room, she had the surgery done, she talk to me about her experiance, she was a very very nice lady. I'm very excited about everything i can't wait. Now I have to wait for ins. approval!
