I orginally tried to get into Dr. Scholten in Grand Rapids and learned after 7 months he couldn't even see me until 10 months later with surgery maybe in December 2002. I decided that I should investigate other surgeons and found Dr. Poplawski. I have talked to many of his patients who love him. I was able to get an appointment in two weeks and actually talk to the doctor face to face. He was very friendly and explained everything in detail. He included my husband in the conversation and had specific things to cover with him. My appointment was April 9, 2002. I talked to him about having my surgery in June because of work and that was very important to me. He said that should be no problem. We talked about whether I needed a sleep apnea test and he said no. Everything was approved very shortly and ready to schedule....then Dr. Poplawski decided I needed the sleep test. I was crushed because I had a goal date in mind and people were scheduling their vacations around me. I now hear they are scheduling in July :-(. I had the sleep test scheduled for the next day and found that I do have apnea and have been given a cpap. I am going to call his office next week and beg for a surgery date. I called and talked to Cindy from Dr. Poplawski's office. Cindy assisted me in getting everything in that I needed immediately! Cindy was so caring, understanding and efficient. She deserves a major raise!!!! I HAVE A SURGERY DATE!!!! July 9, 2002. I AM SOOOO EXCITED!!!!

I chose this center because they specialize in bariatric surgery, and I knew I would be in good hands! And, my surgeon, Dr. Lane, was wonderful! I would recommend BTC to anyone! :O)

They need new mattress on the beds. I found that the mattress on my bed was very thin and my backside suffered because you can only lay on your back for several days.

I hear the Grand Haven branch is much better. The weekday day staff was excellent. Evenings and weekends you can tell the difference but for me they were still good. I LOVED having chairs I could sit in, beds that weren't for tiny people, gowns that covered all of me(even wrapped around me). They were ready to handle any emergency.

I've only met with him once, but he seems genuinly caring. He wanted to make sure I was in good mental health before allowing me to continue with surgery. The office staff was wonderful. They went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and relaxed. I would recommend this Dr. to anyone interested in surgery. He did stress that the aftercare is the most important part of the procedure, mentally, physically and emotionally. He did mention all the surgery risks, which are nothing compared to the benefits. I would definately recommend him for anyone's surgery.

My first impression of Dr Steven Poplawski M.D.,F.A.C.S. was that he was a very careing man who genuinely cares for his patients not only phisically but mentally also . He wants to meet all your needs not only take care of the problom but also a solution to how the problom started. He wants you to phisically and mentally whole and healthy. He stressed aftercare again not only the phisical but also the mental.
He does not want you to have this procedure done for the wrong reasons.

The post-op nursing staff (especially the nursing assistants, who sometimes ran circles around the RN's) were awesome. They were genuinely concerned about my needs and I was well cared for.
