The only bad thing was the night shift. There just wasn't enough aides and nurses on staff. The night shift was loud on New Years Eve. I think that it just was from the excitement of being New Years. They were a little slow to answer calls but it was a nice hospital. I think that the cafeteria needed more for family members and a dinner service.

Doctor Poplawski was very professional in his consultation and didn't seem to try and sell me on his services. Seemed to want to make sure it was a good fit for me. I am very please with Bariatric Treatment Center the Group he works for. My hospital stay in Ypsilanti Michigan was tremendous. Too bad all hospitals aren't like that.

The only negetive comment I would have is that for some reason, Dr. Poplawski did not go down to talk to my husband when I was taken to recovery. This worried and angered him. I don't know why this was, but plan to let him know at my 2 week follow up.

My first impression of Dr. Pop was that he was much younger that I had thought. He is in, I would say his late 30's early 40's. He must be older than that considering he did liver transplants prior to WLS and he has done WLS for 10 years. He has a dry sense of humor, but he is very thorough when it comes to explaining the surgery. He covered all of my questions I had written down before I even had a chance to ask them. He is very strict about having a support system and someone at the hospital with you. He even told me that if it was his wife he would not leave her side. I liked that. I feel very comfortable with him. I know several people who have gone to him and with excellent results. He has NEVER had a leak or a fatality due to surgery. This reassures me. I didn't like how he wouldn't let me ask a question while he was talking. He kept saying, "I'll get to that". And of course he did.

Went and seen Dr. Poplawski in Oct 2002, he was very nice and informative. He included my husband in on everthing that is going to take place and how he has and important role as my caregiver. He explained the procedure in detail, never acting like he was in a hurry. My surg date is 02/17/03, looking forward to getting on the lighter side.

Steven Poplawski, was a very informative surgeon, I felt very confident going into surgery. The after care was wonderful I had a slight complication 2 weeks after surgery, but Dr. Poplawski, gave me very good after care and follow up visits. He is a very complete doctor he was not just interested in getting me to lose weight, but also concerned with why I got this way in the first place, and always reminds me to remember how I got this way, and how I want to eat and feel in the future. His overall rating does not have a high enough scale...I realize that an all positive review is suspicous looking but I have nothing but the utmost espect and admiration for the man who helped me through this difficult journey.

The nurses, aides, dieticians and respiratory people were generally helpful and patient. It could have been a little cleaner though. I actually saw a couple of roaches crawling in the hallway.

Everyone was wonderful and the care was outstanding. It was a times noisy with staff and equipment(wheels on iv poles, carts, monitors could use some WD40). The health care professionals were excellent however, like most these days, tend to be overworked. All in all it was a wonderful place to be under the circumstances.

Honestly, I think that they simply need more workers. But the response time when a nurse was called was too long at times. Also, there were some things that I think should have simply been taken care of as a matter of routine. For instance, they had to measure our urine output, so we had to pee into a "hat" that fit under the toilet seat. Since I shared a room with another patient, one "hat" had to be emptied before the other person could use the toilet. Since this is something that all patients have to do, it seems that every time that a nurse or aide came into the room, they should check it. Instead, every time that I or my room mate needed to use the toilet, we had to call a nurse or stand out in the hallway, trying to flag someone down so that they could empty the hat. That was frustrating. It only took a few seconds to do it, so I think that if they just made it a habit to check, it would make things a lot easier on the patients.

It took months for the Insurance approval..not the Dr's fault. He was fantastic. Knowledgable, took his time with answering my questions. I am having surgery 1/8/02 and trust he will do a super job.

The Doctor was very straight foward in every detail about the surgery and what to expect.
The office staff is wonderful, they never made me feel bad for calling and checking the progress of my approval or with any questions I had. The overall aftercare program was OK, I ran into some complications after the surgery and my regular Doctor took over and Dr. P did not have any thing to do with my care and still does not, I ended up with Blood clots on my lung and am now B12 deficient, so I see my regular Doctor for all of that. I did follow the diet to a T, the book they give you at the Hospital before you leave is a
GREAT tool to use, follow it!! I think the Surgical competence is the most important, the complications I ran into at first were my own fault because I did not excerise, I just laid at home thinking this hurts I can't walk today. and guess what I ended up in ICU for a week, so make sure you walk!!
