Aurora Sinai Medical Center Hospital
Mt. Sinai is in downtown Milwaukee, some may think it is in a bad area, but the security is great from the free valet parking to the secure areas of the hospital. I never felt unsafe. The nurses, Mary, Diane and the nursing assistants were there to help me even when I had to ring every two hours to use the bathroom.
Hospital experience was very pleasant. I was very happy to have a private room and all the staff were nice, friendly and helpful (with the exception of one night nurse who was not so friendly). My only complaint is that when it was time for me to be discharged, (Saturday early afternoon), the nurse was so busy that I had to wait an additional 4 hours before she had the time to do my discharge. By that time I was in horrible pain because I was past due for my pain meds and really impatient because I could have been home relaxing but instead spent half of the day waiting on her. This clearly wasn't her fault but the hospital is severely understaffed on the weekends. Other than that my experience was really positive.
The only 2 down sides were that I didn't get much sleep. My room was right by the Nurse's Station and they were really loud on 3rd shift. But the upside was it kept me up and moving - I took lots of walks. I also had a student nurse who was not very good - dumped pver my IV stand.....the day after surgery.... UGH! Give me a real nurse please :) But other than that it was a good stay.
i JUST HAD A TERRIBLE STAY AND GLAD IT WAS SHORT! FIRST TO BE OBESE THEY PUT YOU IN A ROOM THE SIZE OF A BATHROOM YOU HAVE ALL THIS EQUIPMENT TO MOVE AROUND ROOM FOR VISTORS ROOMS WERE JUST BAD! I FELT LIKE I WAS BOTHERING THE NURSES IF I ALLED FOR HELP MACHINES WERE ALLOWED TO BEEP UNNOTICED THEY WERE KEEPING TRACK OF MY URINE AND IT WAS BUILDING UP AND i CALLED TO SEE IF THEY RECORED BECAUSE IT WAS QUITE HIGH AND HAD TO GO AGAIN AND DIDN'T WANT TO OVERFLOW AND MAKE A MESS. rAND FOR NURSE SAID HER SHIFT WAS OVER SHE'D SEND SOMEONE IN THEY DIDN'T WANT HER ON OVERTIME!mEANWHILE I WAIT WITH A SORE STOMACH TO USE IT! fIANLLY I SAID I'M GOING TO USE IT IF IT RUNS OVER IT RUNS OVER. I ASKED TO BE WASHED UP DAY AFTER WAS STILL NAUSEATED FAMILY HADN'T GOT THERE AND WANTED TO BE CLEAN WHEN THEY DUD GET THERE THE NURSE A DIFFERNT ONE NOW GAVE ME A WASH BUCKET SOAP TOWEL LOTION COMEB CLEAN GOWN AND WALKED OUT THE ROOM! I WASHED UP AS MANY SPOTS I COULD REACH (WASN'T MANY) I NEVER TOLD FAMILY THAT ONE BUT i THINK THATS WHY LEFT SIDE STILL HURTS A LOT THAT THE SIDE I GOT OUT OF BED WITH THE ROOMS DIDN'T HAVE PHONE NUMBERS OR ROOM NUMBERS POSTED SO i NEVER KNEW MY PHONE NUMBER OR ROOM NUMBER JUST THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MEAN A LOT DIDN'T HAPPEN AT THE HOSPITAL i HAD ONE NICE NURSE WISH I COULD REMEBER HER NAME BUT SHE WAS A OLDER LADY SUCH A PLEASURE TO HAVE MY HOSPITAL STAY COULD OF BEEN A LOT NICER IF THERE WAS A BETTER STAFF AND A LOT MORE CARING
I was so impressed with this hospital and all the staff I came in contact with from ambulatory surgery, to OR, to recovery, to my wonderful nurses on the 4th floor. Even all my pre-op testing was a great experience. The bariatric program dietitians are wonderful. I can't say enough. The valet parking is such an awesome bonus. I would refer anyone here in a heartbeat. You will be well cared for.
I was quite pleased with my stay and care. My only complaint is that my check-out process got screwed up. Had a nurse that was more interested in taking her lunch than completing my discharge. Dumped the task to her co-worker. The co-worker was great, wish I would have had her as my nurse vs the lazy one.
