Albany Medical Center Hospital Hospital
My doctor told my parents that they could see me in an hour or two.. well the staff wouldn't let them in at ALL to see me when I came out of surgery, and that was hard on me.. and them since they had been there since the AM and I was not out of recovery until midnight!!!
Nothing went wrong w/ me either! So that's the 1st strike!!!
Then.. when I got to the floor they forgot to hook me up to my O2 and didn't check on me until 1am and my O2 sat was 67% (which is close to respiratory failure) and my IV had infiltrated badly!! My whole hand was puffed up like one of those puffer fish!
So then I am awake and having terrible pain and am slupped down in the bed,I tried to move but couldnt, they took so long to answer my call light.. and when I asked for a boost, they NEVER CAME BACK!! I was moaning, crying, and panicking.. and my roomate got an immediate response when she put on the light and told them that I was too noisy and disturbing her!! My experience there was horrible! I was lucky to get the horrible male aide on 4E night shift to come and empty the hat of the toilet... he would just leave it.. and my new roomate wound up emptying it like 4-5 times... totally unacceptable! I work as a CNA in a hospital on nights.. so they have NO EXCUSE as far as I am concerned! Oh let me add.. my father is handicapped and walks very slowly w/ a cane which is painful to him... they would not let him park out front, yet their handicap parking is allllllll the way across the street!!!! Then when they finally got in to the hospital, they forgot to send my parents down to ambulatory surgery where I was checking in, instead they had them waiting for over an hour upstairs in outpatient testing!! And I had to go upstairs and look for them!!! I will not go back unless I have a trauma.. Would highly recommend you check out St. Peter's Hospital who also does the surgery there!
I am very unhappy with 80% of the nursing staff.. A couple made comments daily on how big I was and let me lay in my own blood when I was unconscience.. My Family and Friends found me with dried blood all over my legs, bedding, floor and with my 1/4 way out of the hospital bed on three separate occasions (I was only there 4 days, Thank God!!!!!)
My stay there overall was good. Most of the staff was great except one nurse who I think must have been new because she really didnt know what she was doing. She kept trying to get me to do things that my doc told me not to do. There was a young man there. Im not sure what his title was but he was the one that handed out the meals and cleaned up my room. He was very nice and would go out of his way to help me with things that the nurses should have done. The reason I rated average for the quiet was because there was a patient across the hall from me that was a little crazy and was always causing some sort of problem. I am glad I went to Albany med though. I would use this hospital again if i needed to.
The 7-3:00 shift sat outside my room chit chatting all day long. They all have very active social lives. Luckily, the daytime PCA was helpful and caring. 3-7 shift the pits ..... too much noise, young, and very inattentive. Too busy socializing and not enough time spend looking after the needs of the patients.
11-7 Actually, this was the best overall staffed shift. Jennifer, who wears the lavender scrubs, is a top notch RN. She met the needs of the patient without being asked. You returned to your bed after being in the bathroom and it had been straightened up. PCA's were quick, efficient, and quiet.
From the time I went for my pre-op to the day of my disharge, the hospital was friendly and efficient-with one exception. the day of the surgery, the operating rooms got backed up and my 12:30 operation was not started until after 2:30 and as a result some who called to check on me got mixed messasges. Unfortunately my most nervous friend got the impression that I had been operated on, sent to recovery and then ended back in the operating room-but that was cleared up after tears and worry on her part. I was kept on the morphine pump longer than II wished and as a result by Saturday afternoon I was a basket case of dizzyness and sleepyness but that was corrected. I think if I ever have to go in again, I have to take better charge of that myself. The three main nurses I had were excellent with much care and concern and I will remember their thoughtfulness always. I was pleased that Dr. Singh used glue instead of tape and I was able to shower on Sunday. Saturday night on to Sunday, my heart had a slight problem that I think was due in part to the morphine and my over use to the breathing machine dueing the night to make up for lost time so Sunday I had a chest x-ray and EKG. There was no problem that showed up. Monday morning Dr. Singh was in early and said he was 99% sure I would be going home but they wanted to do another heart test and have me see the cardiologist for his ok. It was of course a holiday weekend so that was not finished until about 2:00 p.m. after which I did get to go home. I would not hesitate to go there for surgery again even though it is an hour drive from our home in Glens Falls or to recommed it to anyone else.
